I am looking at getting my own Glock. I have been able to shoot the G22 Gen 3 lots. I have not shot the Gen 4. I have a couple of questions for those that have experience with both guns? I don't care about the mag release, grip texture etc. I am mostly concerned about the felt recoil from the recoil spring, is it really worth while (it's about $160 more in my situation for a gen 4). Also has anyone compared a gen 3 gun with an aftermarket dual action recoil spring (similar to the new gen 4 spring) and the new gen 4 guns? I am leaning towards a gen 3 and just buying a new recoil spring as its a lot cheaper. Yes, I have read all the reviews and if it's on the interweb it must be true.....please help me out with your experience!

Avenida..... Do you think changing the recoil spring in a gen 3 would the fix the snappiness, similar to the gen 4... I am looking at something like the EFK Fire Dragon h ttp://www.efkfiredragon.com/glock-22-24-31-35-40-sandw-357-sig-dual-action-recoil-spring-stainless-steel.html

The new recoil springs are nice, and do help with recoil management. These can we added to a Gen 3 though if you wanted.

The main advantage for me with the Gen 4's is the beavertail backstraps. I find the feel to be far superior to that of the Gen 3. I replaced my Gen 3's with Gen 4's, with the exception of my G21C.

I don't note much difference between g3 & g4 .40's perceived recoil.

I highly prefer the G4's mag release and texture, though.

Worth the "$160", IMO. (You will not care about the felt recoil after you shoot it enough and get used to it)

I am not a fan of the Gen4's as they offer nothing that interests me. I dont need the different size backstraps as the standard grip is fine for me. The reversible mag release is of no interest as I am right handed and only use the left side release anyways and have no difficulty accessing it. The recoil system works better for some but I also find the Gen3 stock system manageable and see no need to change as far as my needs are concerned. Keep in mind that with the Gen4s you get an extra mag(ttl 3) so dont forget to factor that in, but if are a lefty and switch the mag release over, you can only use Gen4 mags. So if you need the features offered, the Gen4 is a fine choice, but personally I have no need or desire for that. All of mine are Gen2 or Gen3 (and there is quite a few of them in many calibers) and I am happy with all of them, choosing only to add FO sights from stock.

the new springs are awesome in my humble opinion. I shoot the Gen4 a lot better than I do gen3.
The frame of the gen 4 is not only shorter by 2mm but also slimmer at the grip, which REALLY helps in customizing your grip with 1 of the 2 back straps if you need them.
Every person is different so you will notice some people shooting the G3 with no problems. I can't shoot them, they do not fit me and find the texture extremely slippery, which causes others problems in my grip. If I have to customize or add some extra rubber grip, the whole thing ends up being a 2x4.

The Gen4s fit me like a GLOBE, I use them with the medium strap.

Now, going back to the original topic. I really like the new spring (not that new really, it has been out for a while and it was originally designed for the mini Glocks). It was then used to solve some issues with G22 wearing a light, for some reason the old spring not only is weaker for the .40 but it was also having problems with lights attached to the rail. Note that the recoil spring in Gen3 is the same for 9mm and .40 whereas in Gen4 there are 2 different springs.
I do notice the recoil in the Gen3 when shooting 9mm but in the Gen4, not only the spring is a lot stronger and the recoil is inexistent but also the texture helps to keep the gun in your hands and by this you avoid fatigue. Fatigue build up turns into milking the grip (very strong hold of the grip/crunching it) and poor finger dexterity/trigger control.

Overall, I find it to be a really nice feature. It works for me.
I have tried shooting Gen3, they just do not work for me. Sold my last one not long ago.
I do not believe in aftermarket recoil gimmicks for many reasons, particularly because there are cheaper options that work: the gen4 recoil spring. I truly believe the gen4s are the perfect Glock.

Not that wearing out the older gen 3 spring quickly is likely unless you shoot competitive, the gen 4 spring is to have 2-3x the life before wearing out. Another advantage plus the lower felt recoil to some. I don't feel much of a difference personally.

Gen 4 for new grip texture alone. I have a G31 with similar recoil characteristics and I can confirm the spring helps. Also, if you're buying new, remember you're getting a third mag as well.
