Hi Guys

I picked up a couple primo Inglis mags for my High power today. Trouble is, the guy that had them put the price tags on with packing tape, which has left it's nasty glue all over the nice parkerizing:( . Any ideas how to get the glue off without wrecking the park? I'd be heartbroken if I tried alcohol or goo be gone and it screwed with the finish...

thanks!

You could try soaking it in oil. I don't know if it'll do anything for glue, but at least you know for sure it won't ruin the park.

Alcohol won't hurt the finish. Breakcleaner, Mineral Spirits, or laquer thinner will also remove the glue and won't hurt the finish.. just oil it after as it will be dry as a bone.

Put them in a pan of boiling water for a few minutes and the moveing water will take it off for you, when you take them out of the water just lay them on a paper towel and the water will evaporate off. bearhunter

Thanks guys, a little WD did the trick. Is there anything that stuff can't do?

Does parkerizing absorb oil and become more lustrous, or am I just imagining things? I've often wondered if it is maintenance free, or if there is some way to make it prettier...

Parkerizing holds oil well which helps in rust prevention. I think it's pretty just the way it is::)

Next time you have this problem try naptha. Works like a charm and evaporates in about 5 seconds without residue.

And yes, parkerizing micro-etches steel surfaces so they retain oil better. That's why the military does it - so that when a good little soldier oils his weapon, it stays oiled until the next cleaning session and resists rust.

Just make sure you do this outside, away from flames and wear a mask. Wear gloves too. It will take the oil right out of your skin. You want to see my hands.

I worked with naptha 40 years ago, and it can be deadly.

This is the best suggestion of all of the above. Oil will break down virtually any glue, and is what should be on the mags in the first place. But if the mags are properly parked, anything short of oven cleaner should be OK with the finish.
I specifically mention oven cleaner because enterprising soldiers looking for an easy way out have used this on rifles, and it tends to clean off much more than just carbon (ie finish).
