HELP! I freaked my Girlfriend out!

Ya Right give her a 22 so she knows you think she cant handle a 12 Ga after shes already shot a 12 Ga

Id get her a Semi 12 Ga like some guys here said.

Makeing her feel like a little kid heres your 22 Sweety will get you scorn and she will be Pissed.
If you were just starting her out Before she shot the 12Ga then i agree 22 and work up,
But treating a woman like they cant handle stuff (even if its the case) is not smart.

Make sure that her ears are very well protected - the disposable, foam type ear plugs inserted properly work very well. Coupled with muffs (if they don't interfere with how she sights the gun) should minimize the BOOM.

That's the very best tip when it comes to teaching woman to shoot! There is no such thing as too much ear protection. Ear plugs + a good set of ear-muff are a must.

If you absolutly want her to shoot sporting clay, invest in a nice (not camo) shooting vest. It will help tame the recoil... and she'll look good.

(Tip #2, accessories are good.. :D)

You can also get a gel pad for some browning vests that slip into a pocket on the inside of the vest for the shoulder. I bought my wife the vest years ago and just picked up the pad this spring.

I agree with the rest of the CGN'ers. Make it fun. Bring her through the calibers and see what she likes. Let her choose her acccessories(ear protection, shooting vests, etc). My wife entered the sport last year and she is content with .22 and 22-250 target shooting. Not keen on the shotguns and recoil but is looking for the next caliber.

let her shoot a .22 for a bit to get used to the idea of holding a firearm and such while shooting then work up a bit

im trying to get my G/F to fire my mosin nagant carbine but its hard to conveince her after she sees me and my friend shooting it and sees the fireball of a muzzle flash the thing generates and the noise is almost enough to knock the wind out of you if your standing to the side, the recoil on the other hand is not very bad at all its a fun gun:cool:

right so i got in late on this thread. i think it depends on the person.. i find alot of ppl, mostly the ladies ( dont hurt me ) dont understand whats really happening when they fire a gun.. it goes bang, they freak, think its gonna blow up on them..
i explained the inner and outer workings of guns to my girlfriend ( at her request ) before we went shooting and she was fine with it. infact she even picked up a fully loaded mag of heavy load 3" 00 Buck and destroyed an old PC monitor with my Saiga Vepr12 in under 3 seconds ..

beginners luck ? haha i dunno.. but she looked damn good with that dirty red shotty

so ive always put it down to understanding and education before you start someone on something heavy
