picked this up for $299.... (from hical) all the numbers match, nothing has been re-stamped... i suspect its all original non refurb. I'm very pleased with it, cant wait to shoot it :)

Can someone please help me out, tell me what to look for here... what level of mosin this is (quality/rarity) and how well I did getting it?

serial number 42718, arrow in a triangle stamp (Ishevsk yes?) and at the top of the receiver, a lovely hammer and sickle stamp in a laurel wreath or something... the receiver isnt round, its hex shaped. Dated 1932r.
Theres not a mark or scratch or dent or gouge anywhere on the thing, and no "repairs" to the wood like inserts or anything.

I'm not sure, but in your last pic I think I can see a Tula star on your bolt. If it is true, the bolt is a refurb replacement. Nice looking rifle though!

It screams "refurb" and it's mixmaster. Sorry. Some bolt parts are Tula, some Izhevsk, bolt handle - is that R(emington)? Can't see. Still nice refurb. Just nice refurbed hex MN.

so when i drop it in an archangel stock, people aren't gonna freak the #### (eff) out?

Nope but don't go and drill and tap it and put a bent bolt.

If your putting it in an archangel stock you can take the front sight off so you wont have to worry about breaking the front barrel band like i did.

thank you for the awesome response :)
after reading that website (and posting an intro post with these pics) i was kind of expecting an explosion of snobbery.
I had intended to get a bent bolt, there are a few guys in america doing good work with heavy threaded mods using 5ton thread locker and some guys doing welding but i havent finished researching yet.

Hey, it's your gun... you are free to do with it as you please. just don't go posting your plans on here... http://www.russian-mosin-nagant-forum.com/

Personally, I would never do that to my 1934 Tula hex but, to each his own.

Let us know how it goes !!

Cheers !!

as far as i'm concerned, anyone should be able to put five in a four inch ring at 100 yards with a scope.
i'm more interested in five in a six inch ring at 300.
or at 100 with iron sights.
Not unreasonable.
i just wanted the nicer stuff, hex receiver etc.

With handloads and a decent scope and a timney trigger sub moa isn't that hard. My mosin pu sniper does a little over an inch groups with factory ammo ive yet to try handloads.

OMG what an improvement!!!
and the function is so awesome smooth and solid, no need for hardcore slapping of the bolt

First off what is a improvement? Also changing the stock doesn't change the smoothness of the bolt, the action is still the same, the bolt is still the same nothing that would effect smoothness has changed.

Eye of the beholder maybe?

Either way, have a good time with that ADHD, you are in for a treat! (You might need an M38/M44 next haha)
