I was watching a shooting event in the USA and noticed a person shooting a rifle that, for all the world, looked like a M1 Garand but it was a bolt action rifle.

I say that it looked like a Garand because it was rather bulky above the fine looking walnut (appearing) stock and it appeared to have a wood hand guard forward of the action.

I didn't notice a magazine under the rifle.

Any ideas what that might have been?

Assuming its US made, maybe a M1903 Springfield, or a variation thereof??

Pretty hard to ID without pics, although it's awful hard to screen capture a TV show.

It would most likely be an M17 or a 1903 springfield....Both pretty common rifles; We have a lot of M17 rifles here in Canada, though most are sporterized(I have one myself, and my brother has owned a few of them):)
