Help Identify Anchutz 22 magnum rifle

It has the serial 703442 on the receiver, and a heavy barrel 22 3/8 inches with no sights or grooves for them.I thought it might be a 1516 as it has the strange looking, Bavarian Monte Carlo stock, with a curl at the top.Very little information available on these rare guns, as few people shoot with them.It is made very well, and tightly constrcted, and looks like it might be accurate.

If it's NOT accurate, it will be the first Anschutz rifle I've ever encountered. Can you give us the proof date - left-hand side of the barrel and action, close together. Then we can put a date to it.

My Anschutz Mod 1409 was made in 1963, and still makes 1/4" five-shot groups at 50m with standard ammunition. It is, of course, in .22cal and not .22 WMR like yours.

All I can see is a N with something under it "hex shaped'....The barrel is marked J.G. Anschutz...........The heavy barrel with no open sights, means it isn't too old....I think it is a model 1516d HB Varmint .The pictures on Google look like that model is the one.It didn't seem they made as many WMR as .22 lr models.The Internet has almost no information about these nice guns, as most people don't know how good they are, or even what they are.

There may be two digits on the left side of the barrel near the receiver that is either 67 or 68. The serial number is from that period. The model number is likely a 1516.

Mine is a 64 action? I don't know much about these guns except the "54' is the match grade version.The Bavarian stock drew my attention to the gun, as I wanted a 22 magnum.I only wish it still had the open sights, instead of that heavy plain barrel.Now I have to buy an expensive scope, to match the accuracy of the gun.My Bushnell banner won't cut it, and my gun is asking for a Zeiss.

From your Photo I have the "64" Bolt, as it came apart, when I dismantled the rifle.I didn't pay much for the gun, so I can't expect match grade actions.

Good to know, and that inspires me to spend more on it's sighting system, as all my scopes are cheap.

Anschutz magazines are the same for 64 and 54 action repeaters, Flobert action repeaters, too. The 1516 is a 64 action rifle.

The 64 action rifle shown in the OP is certainly good looking.

Morini and Beretta are Italian and as such aren't among Teutons. The Romans fought and defeated the Teutons, a northern European tribe over 2000 years ago.

Kind of gotcha!
Morini is a Swiss firearms manufacturer.
Many make your same assumption.

You're right, of course, about Morini being Swiss. My mistake. I had meant to identify Pardini as the other Italian, definitely not-Teutonic, firearms maker.

Just thinking out loud... Wonder if there's a "cheaper" magazine alternative for the 22mag?
- For the 22lr, there is the Wisner-Brownells Savage magazine.

Thank you all for helping me discover this rifle , as this forum is the greatest source of firearms knowledge on the internet.You folks know everything about fine weapons, and are somehow able, to ignore the crappy ones.
