Help identify Chinese 7.62x39...

There is a way to tastefully post your problems with out attacking the person or bussiness

CGN is NOT a forum where everyone and there dog can come a complian about how they were wronged. This is a place to get info and resolve problems. If you have an issue with someone, take it up with them. If you post the facts "tastfully" then your golden, if you resort to mud slinging then your post is deleted.

Its pretty simple and if you dont like it MOVE ON

Take this up with Lever. Do not involve my favorite interne forum in a possible future civil suit over libel and slander.
 
I buy my ammo on the Ee I look for the best (nc) but expect the worst (corrosive).

At the end of the day lever may be lying or may honestly be ignorant to the problem. At any rate I don't expect them to do anything. They don't accept blame because who's to say you're not lieing to them?

Like buying bad fuel for your car from a gas station... Prove to the station you bought the bad gas specifically from them.

If you got burned, be mad, take your business elsewhere and move on.
 
Ugh just checked my other green crate. The spam cans are different, they peel along the sides like a spam can. The crate I previously mentioned had a pull ring and opened in a 'u' shape along the top.

Here's to hoping this next crate will be Chinese non corrosive. If not, I do have one last crate of canam which will be a safe bet.

Ill have to reinventory my x39 as the corrosive side probably just doubled.

I just opened one can of the green crate and it is paper wrapped but the rounds are stamped 31 72. So 1972 production. Corrosive.

However the interesting part is that they are green layer? Finish on the casings. I have copper washed, steel grey lawyer, and green lawyer.

Any significant difference? I assume they are all steel core.

Take no chances, clean as if all 7x62 is corrosive. It takes a few more minutes, and it won't damage your gun.
Not catching all of the salts left from corrosive ammo will cause rust..

Then buy your ammo from another source.

I have bought ammo in boxes clearly marked "non corrosive" that was very corrosive. It was made in China by a Norinco factory. After that incident I made a point of cleaning with hot soapy water.
I don't consider my self "burned" even though the bright metal on my AK47 is now plum brown ( a very pleasant colour). The ammo did not burn the gun so much as it was a slow oxidation reduction reaction that resulted in rust about 3 days after cleaning with expensive mouse milk.
The least you could do after shooting foreign ammo is to use a water base cleaning solvent like Wipeout ( I don't use anything else but household ammonia - apparently the worse it smells the better it works).
Many folks have shot corrosive ammo and because of good cleaning and maintenance habits have never even known the ammo is corrosive.

i agree, nomater what gun or ammo you should still clean it to get all the crap out. better safe than sorry and easier in the long run since you will have a nice clean gun for next time. thats why when i buy ammo i dont even look whether its corrosive or not, i just clean it soon as i get home. plus corrosive is usualy a fair bit cheaper also so i'd rather spend a extra 10 minutes to do a good cleanup when i get almost 2 boxes of corrosive shells for the price of 1 box non-corrosive.
also i find Hops Nitro solvent is good for cleaning my SKS, thats all i ever use unless it gets very dirty then i give it the wash out. there isnt a spec of rust anywhere on mine and its all nice and shinny still with not a single pit in the barrel/gas tube. it saves time and does a good job also. when im done i just give it a nice lite coat of Hops gun oil.

Lol, buying from Lever is like buying from guys selling out of the back of a van, only, they record all your information. Any Comm-block military surplus ammo, is almost certain to be corrosive. The new production stuff is not. The lack of knowledge, or honesty on the part of some retailers is irrelevent, do your homework, and you'll have no issues.
 
Just wanted to chime on this even though I have never dealt with Lever or shoot 7.62x39

The fact they are advertising it as 'Non-Corrosive' and it is being claimed as corrosive, if this can be proven it is CLEARLY false advertising and a Small Claims lawsuit is in order, doesn't matter who the vendor is, false advertising is false advertising plain and simple. Sure maybe they got the Non-Corrosive spec from their supplier, you'd think after people have phoned and complained about it being otherwise they would pull it from their website and test it themselves to be sure and then post the results on their website. This clearly is not the case. Its the onus of the seller to properly advertise a product. If its corrosive and Lever is being told otherwise from their supplier, they should pull it from their website/shelves and contact the supplier about correcting the issue, instead Lever has ignored these claims and left it for sale (assuming it is confirmed as corrosive). Its no different than if you went to a gas station and purchased what was advertised as Gasoline and was filled with Diesel instead. (this recently happened in Calgary). The gas station in question contacted all the owners they could and are paying for ALL repair charges and a new tank of gas, they didnt just ignore it and keep selling Diesel advertised as Gas to people.

I don't disagree with 10x that you should thoroughly clean your firearm no matter what ammo you're shooting. But this doesnt change the fact Lever is mis-leading (tricking) customers with their advertisement of that ammo. Not everyone is as diligent in cleaning as others, and if you shoot a box of rounds without cleaning it, it shouldnt destroy your firearm if you had purchased what you thought was 'non-corrosive' ammo.

The fact that CGN no longer lists them as a supporting Vendor should be some sign to those who disagree. Remember the company selling his 'Reloaded Ammo' and was busted as selling factory ammo repackaged as such that he had purchased from an Estate sale. Yeah he didn't last long as a CGN supporting vendor either.

Sure CGN is not a place to solely moan and complain about firearms related topics. Except the OP's original post is not either. He was simply asking if anyone else had experienced anything similar. Its other people who chimed in afterwards that are doing the #####ing and moaning.

If you bought ammo that was marked NC and was corrosive, you got burned plain and simple. There is a reason NC ammo is more $ than corrosive stuff. So you paid NC $ for corrosive ammo... IE getting burned. Its not our fault you can sit idly and accept the fact you got ripped off, but when it happens to someone else your advice is to suck it up and move on, some people just cant accept that. If it were me there would be some people getting chewed out over the misleading sale.

Just my 2cents on the issue.

The ammo was norinco, was in steel cases was clearly marked Non Corrosive (remember those silver boxes of 20 from China?). I got it when I bought out the remaining stock of a gunshop. The first 3000 rounds did not seem to be corrosive but somewhere in the middle of a case one component changed. It was not the fault of the gun store I purchased it from either. The merchant bought it on good faith the ammo was as marked.
With all of the repackaging of ammo one can safely assume that steel case ammo from Communist countries is corrosive.
or that any thing berdan primed is corrosive.

Well this explanation changes the situation of your story completely. Its one thing to buy a case of 'NC' only to find out the whole batch is corrosive... its another to be in your situation where the product differed in the single case it came from. This is a prime example of why you should never fully trust surplus, heck I even inspect all my Factory Ammo for issues.

Still, I can't wait to hear some more results of peoples testing RE: Levers 1440 Cases of 7.62. If it turns out to be not what they are claiming I hope someone has the time and will to take them to court over it. Its bad enough we get screwed over by our Government regarding Firearms and all related products. It really hits home when getting screwed around by vendors supplying shoddy/mis-represented products that we can actually get in Canada. From what I can see though, there is currently only 2 people on this thread having the issue, it'll be interesting to see if more people come forward with the same claim.

If a whole bunch of guys got together and sued Lever, their ammo prices would go up to cover the expense of the lawsuit. They may even decide to go out of the ammo business entirely.
Either case would put ammo prices up - possibly to a point where surplus ammo isn't such a sweet deal any more.

If a whole bunch of guys got together and sued Lever, people would stop buying from them, there wouldnt be a customer base to cover their lawsuit costs. And I can't really see ONE company going under driving up Surplus prices around Canada so significantly it would affect consumers that much. They are not the only ones in Canada who source Surplus ammo, especially when others sell 1440 Cases of 7.62 that are not claimed either way (NC or corrosive) but are labeled 'Berdan Primer' for $100 less.

And would you really support a company that is knowingly ripping off its customer buy gouging them on falsely advertised product?

I am still very skeptical on this claim though as Lever is/was not the only vendor offering 1440 7.62 cases. A quick search reveals others carrying it, and even The Gun Dealer has a post on this site questioning the 7.62 he received from their supplier claiming it as Russian surplus.

Could be Lever is knowingly ripping people off, or could be they are in the dark from their supplier on what they 'may' actually be selling (corrosive ammo).

So it's OK for a retailer to charge an unfair amount for this ammo advertised as non-corrosive, and customers having their guns damaged as a result? And pit the barrel of my new CZ-858. Just because someone is a paid sponsor of CGN doesn't mean they should be able to keep lying about the ammo.
