Help identify my Ruger 10/22!

Hi everyone,

I recently bought this 10/22 off EE and having difficulties trying to determine the model or this 10/22.

The rifle is an older model serial number check comes up between 1984 and 1985. It's got metal trigger and guard, williams fibre optic front/back, straight butt, no barrel band. I think everything about this gun looks to me original but I'm no expert. The stock and barrel is in perfect condition with only some paint chipping/scratches on the receiver, trigger guard.

It came with trigger job which I'm not sure what was done/changed but trigger pull is sub 4lbs and with sear pre travel set screw and over travel set screw (I know this is has no relevance but thought I'd mention it).

I initially thought this was the compact version because it looks identical but measuring the size quickly proved that this is just as big as full size carbine. Actually the barrel is .5" longer than full size and total length is 38" vs 37" for full size carbine.

Then I thought maybe the stock is the compact so I measured length of pull and and it's full size 13.5"... very confused!!

Am I looking at an hard to find model or pieced together custom 10/22? Any ideas?

That would predate even Bill Ruger's father!
 
lol my bad! I meant betwen 1984-1985.

As mentioned in my post, it can't be the compact/jr model. It's totally full size. Even the trigger pull length is identical to full carbine when measured so the stock can't be compact model??
 
Won a 10-22 in the 1986 range, and it had a barrel band.
Sold it without firing a shot for $225.
The one without the barrel band was the deluxe.
Since no price was quoted, I can only suggest you got a quality rifle from that era in the 10-22 family.
 
yes it's marked Ruger on the receiver and also on barrel.

Horseman2: Thanks for the info. That could possibly be it then if the stocks looked mine in that era. I think I did ok with the deal with trigger job, butler creek sling, Bushnell trophy red dot(older model), 10rd mag, 30rd mag.

RUGER 10/22 FACTORY SPORTER STOCK FOR TAPERED BARRELS

This stock appears similar to yours.
The one that was won had a birch stock but there were also walnut.
While researching, there was a picture of a walnut stock that was checkered.



Price wise you did okay and the extras enhance the purchase.
Your's appears to have what was described as the original base.
Perhaps the base would not allow the open sights to be used.
I do not recall if the base accepted Ruger rings and your one photo that might show that was too dark.
Did the seller have any history on the rifle?
Shoot it and report back.

sold up here for a while...yours likely has just been restocked as the serial # does not match, I have had a few.

I guess I got a pretty good 10/22 then. Should I keep it? I bought another .22lr rifle after this one and now I'm itching to add a lever action in .357mag. However, I already own three .22lr rifles (bolt, 2 semis), I'm thinking to sell one of semis and I was thinking to sell this 10/22. My other semi is 715T dressed up nicely and fun to shoot. Wife thinks I have few less in my collection than what I actually have already so... Opinions/advice?

10/22RR stock and barrel, swapped onto what I presume was a carbine. The 10/22RR came out in the early 2000s if memory serves me. At least some of the 10/22RR models were labeled as "RIFLE" on the receiver.

As for you dilemma about keep it or sell it... I'd keep it, but I'm not you. It doesn't hurt to have a couple of extra .22s around, for introducing your friends/family to shooing.

Thanks for the additional info! That confirms why the barrel and stock looks new. The receiver doesn't have "rifle" on it. It says 10/22 carbine so it's from a carbine model I perhaps.

I do not own any rifle caliber larger than .22lr so that is one more reason for thinking to sell one of .22lr to make "room".
