Winchester model 1897. Not millsurp in this form but some were used with a short barrel, heatsheald and bayonet lug. Nice looking old gun and i hope to have one myself some day.

7.62xfun is correct.

Also, it is a takedown version. If you find there is play between the barrel section and the receiver there is an adjustment to correct that (if it isn't already maxxed out).

The milsurp version described above was called a trench gun or trench sweeper. They are famous for their 'firehose' mode. You can hold down the trigger and just pump new cartridges in and it will fire each time.

Im no expert but ive seen them go from between 400-1200 based on condition. I think the early days of these would have been black powder for some so you might have pitting. But from the looks of the outside i would think 8-900? Im sure someone will come along in a few and give you a better idea.

If the serial number is six digits it is from 1915. These guns are popular with the Cowboy action crowd. You can find them on the EE regularly for 450-650$
Any price beyond that would be for trench guns or mint ultra rare versions.
I would say 500$ on yours if the bore is good and everything functions well.
