Howdy.

This is a bubba specil in 6.5 on another board. Buddy thought it was a swede, I think it is a carcano varient, but am throwed by the double trigger.

Any hints and ideas on model and value are appreciated.

6.5

Found this on reference site: The barrel seems shorter on the photo he sent, but it could be cut down.

DESCRIPTION: Very scarce Italian Mannlicher Carcano M.1891/41 target rifle with double set triggers. M.1891/41 was the last model of Mannlicher Carcano infantry rifle. The rifles with double set triggers were built for the military target shooting. They were still used in both, national and international shooting matches in the 1960-s. The arsenal markings are stamped on the back of the barrel, "A Royal Army Crown over FAT 41" (Terni arsenal, 1941). This model of Carcano rifle was built still in 6.5 mm caliber, but with constant pitch rifling.

It is a Carcano sporterised for Eaton's in the 1920s. Should be in 6.5x54 Mannlicher Schoenauer calibre.

Do not take chances. Have a Cerrosafe cast of the chamber done then get some ammo for it.
This is a very interesting sporter and quite a nice hunting round; maybe you should restore it to its sporter grade status and use it.

It looks much better than a typical bubba. That's not a bad stock and the double triggers are cool.

I don't see a front sight, does it come with scope mounts or am I missing something?

Thanks for the info! I am starting to convince myself that I may need it. I was unaware that Eatons bought and sporterized milsurp firearms.

A few more questions then; who is andy that did the writing on these things?

Is there ammo around for these? I know prvi makes it, but not sure if anyone carries it. We have a gunshow coming up in a few weeks, I might be able to find something. I will do a web search on Eatons carcano etc to find more information.

Thanks and keep it coming.

The Cooey Carcanos are 6.5x54 Mannlicher Schoenauer, not 6.5x52 Mannlicher Carcano. The MC will chamber in the MS, but headspace is really excessive.

The Eaton's Carcanos were rebuilt by H.W.Cooey. They used the original chamber with an extended forward portion of the barrel, held in place by a set-screw. Relatively safe when the set-screw is in place, so be sure to check this.

Problems arose when set-screws were reset/removed by amateur mechanics, then rifles started blowing up. One local fellow was killed by one.

When I started shooting 6.5s, everybody thought I was crazy, as 'everybody knew' that 6.5s blew up. I am still shooting the carcano Carbine I got when I was in ghigh school; it hasn't blown up and killed me yet...... nor have any of my other 6-and-a-halfs.
