I need some help identifying a Mauser action.
The top of the action says:
WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A/N

The year is 19X0 - can't read the X because the hole for the scope base goes through it, but it really looks like a 0.
The serial number is preceded by O.G.

I was told that it is a 98K action, but as I'm not familiar with Mausers, I can't verify that. If the year of manufacture is indeed 1900, I think that it can't be a 98K because I thought they were all built later (could be wrong here).

Now, the action is on a custom target barrel (different caliber than any Mausers), and the bottom metal does not match. In addition, the bolt has been modified so I can't use any clues related to any of those parts to identify it.

Here are some pictures that will probably identify the type of action to those who are familiar with Mausers.

Any help would be appreciated!

Sounds like a Swedish M96 receiver made by Mauser Oberndorf in 1900. The bolt is probably a Swedish bolt that was modified.

The trigger guard is not correct for a Swedish mauser as it has the hinged floor plate. The markings on the bottom of the floor plate may give an idea what type of rifle it came from.

Any close up of the marking and serial number ? Most of the Mauser/DWM military contract rifles will have a letter assigned as part of the contract part code identifier (I think "K" was used for Mauser model 1903s for Turkey for instance). If it is a Mauser or DWM made part, we may be able to figure it out.

It may also be FN in origin as well so we have a few possibilities.

Here's a picture of the bottom metal. It's not very clear in the picture, but behind the front screw it is marked "I", and the number is 5553 (same as the actual floorplate, but different than the receiver). It's an excellent design - I'm not sure why current commercial rifles don't use it. My Win M70 has a little button to release the floorplate, but the design on this gun is much better.
