Have a really good look at the front sight ramp and how it is attached to the barrel. Nothing to do with an area refinish.

I dithered around and did not order one for m38 while they were in stock, but I did get one for m94 - much shorter. I did screw it into a Swede receiver and bought a very rusted out m94 original barrel and salvaged the sights - which are different (especially the rear one) than on the m96 or the later m38. Is a "project" more or less under way - I did get a reproduction m94 stock from Alberta with reproduction m94 hand guard - and am awaiting arrival of a correct "lower band" and long spring for m94 - then to assemble that thing - will be a "wanna be" m94-14 - with the accessory piece for attaching a bayonet - which I have on hand.

I guess I was lucky, the only reason that I would part with it is if I could find a left hand Zastava M-70 in 6.5x55. It is a tack driver.
I understand that Inter Surplus bought out Tradex, have you tried them for a barrel?

Isn't the front sight ramp part of a sleeve which was installed over the barrel? You can see where the sleeve ends at the end of the ramp. Two piece assembly, and the finish has aged differently.

I have since dealt with lack of a new, old stock m38 barrel. TradeEx no longer listed them on their website, unless they had a few "in the back room" - but I did not specifically ask about one - so I would be surprised if Inter-Surplus ended up with any m38 barrels. If I needed one today, is where I would try, though.
