Hello,

I've come across a non-restricted length vz58 but cannot tell the maker and whether it is a prohibited one or not most importantly. After lots of searching I'm still none the wise, anyone have any ideas? Cheers :)

Only the CZ858 have gone prohib. They all feature a grey-ish blue finish from factory and none of them have the side of the receiver tapped for the optics rail mount you see in the first photo from factory.

Thanks for the help onetwentyish, do you know who may have produced this and the model type? I'd like to have an FRT number ready to prove it's non-rest and not prohib like some of the CZ858's (to the misfortune of all :( ) , it certainly looks like it has the 'big receiver window' ?

It sports the same trigger guard, mag release, furniture as my CSA. I would guess its a CSA.

Really? Could have sworn that the machined marks under the rear sight were an indicator of Cz 858.

There's probably some stamping underneath the rail? It's not uncommon to have Cz858's drilled and tapped by a smith is it?

Looks to be one of the "prohibited" CZ-858 models...

Look at the "Large" milled out window on the sight block. (it also has a small window milled into it where the Czech Lion and date of manufacture usually is).

Also, it looks to have the serial number in the spot where the original VZ58 military rifles had it.

I could be wrong on all this info though... I'm not sure what Marstars FSN rifles looked like either?

A view of the inside of the receiver would at least tell us if it is a CSA or CZ. The mount could have been drilled and tapped after the fact, and can't tell if it is painted/dipped type finish or the newer CSA finish.

EDIT: Wow, in the time it took me to type, there were 4 replies before mine.... I must be getting old....

CSA = Czech Small Arms (manufacturer)
Model: VZ-58
But if it was a CSA, it wouldn't have the machine marks as previously stated.

It would look like this:

Thanks for the reply eatredmeat157, I think the best way to figure this out at the moment is to get the side rail off and see if it's got the CZ858 model designation under it, it seems odd though that in the machined window there's no obvious czech lion or date of manufacture as you normally see on CZ858s.

Like I said, the features I see were all there on my VZ58 from CSA, and the the. I have never seen a FACTORY finish CZ that was not that grey-ish blue finish and had a factory tapped reciever. I did not say it could not be tapped or refinished.

I am positive that the furnature and trigger guard ARE identical to my CSA

This is the same finish and markings mine has. There is something peculiar about OP's pic of the rear sight and the color does seem off from CSA finish, but it is hard to tell with the poor lighting and background in the photos OP provided

definitely not CSA or FSN .

probably like zahal said its a CZ858 .

CZ858 selector position for fire is backward , CSA is forward .

We'll see what's under the side plate, but what I'm confused about is, if it is a cz858 why does it have both a large and narrow machine window under the sight and how come there are no markings in them- the czech lion and the date ??

Not all CSA Vz 58 have that trigger guard. There is some variations sometimes from one gun to the next. A loop front sling attachment vs a rectangle. A fully hooded front sight vs a non fully hooded front sight, A fire selector that pushes forward to fire vs some have it you push it back, and a indented trigger guard vs a non indented trigger guard. This variation was also evident with the CZ 858.
