I bought some time ago a lever win 94 in 3030 but something weird about the barrel. It's tapered or a step barrel like the german mauser had, pretty cool and made in 1899. Just looking for info, was told that it was a special order, could have been rebarreled but would have been done over 60 years ago as per previous owner, it was his dad's gun.

Thanks

Are there barrel markings showing? I can't get the photo to come up so I'm blind here. If there are the appropriate barrel markings then it was not rebarrelled, unless done back at Winchester. It may have also been a 1/2 oct-1/2 round which was turned round after the fact. Is the step just above the end of the button mag?

Good old photobucks! I can see the photos but not able to upload here. The gun is a 94 with a two stepped round Winchester stamped barrel, looks like a 24" with a front sight boss and the barrel step down is about 4" ahead of forend at the end of mag tube.

Hopefully he can get a different method of pics. To my untrained eye it looks like an original WCF barrel. New Haven roll stamp on barrel is over the forend tip.

Its a Winchester barrel, But im thinking its had some out of factory work done, that barrel bands placement just looks wrong.

He said it was shortned but I couldn't see really how,. Funny story his dad was a bootlegger and chopped it out so it fit in a violin or instrument case. Not sure if true or not just wanted a good older lever. My 3855 is in terrible condition so when this one came I was really happy.
