Good day,

I am a service member that has just been posted to Greenwood, NS. Now that it is hunting season, I find myself lost and tracking through Crown land.

If someone that knows the area can show me around or if they have land that has lots of deer on it, will allow me permission to hunt on their land. I am just looking for some help trying to fill the freezer.

Thanks,

Ghost2VP.

Your best bet is get out there and scout and ask permission to access private property. You will be hard pressed to get people on a forum to hand out hunting spots or post game rich areas for all to see? You can also join a local hunting and angling club, good way to meet new like minded people, make friends and acquire hunting partners!

if I lived in the area I would have you over for a hunt ,I am sure there would be someone in the area that would do the same for are service men just got to get in touch with the right guy ,most guys can understand being away from home well it is hunting season .and if someone is away from home well in the service all the more reason to invite them out for a hunt or to go fishing ,good luck Dutch

Best to check the FB NS hunting pages. In 2 years I only ever seen 1 deer on mom property in Nictaux Falls.

Or ask the fellow workers.

Exactly that dutch, and couldnt this (posting on the internet) be a form of knocking on Doors?
For all we know he has been burning boot leather and has come up blistered with little or no direction to try.
I certainly wouldnt give him GPS co-ords, but a door in the right direction certainly, but being a Union Thug, you all get that its about Me only ;) Right ?
Hope you get to cut a tag this fall in/near Greenwood.
Rob

I just got posted out of Gwood last year. took me 4 years to get a nice private hunting property.

I was in the same boat, not used to the area and looking for a spot. I had a buddy set me up near annapolis royal to get away from the Greenwood area. This summer I will again scout that area as well as down off HWY 10. I didn't have much luck this year but I got out late didn't have a ton of time, may need to set up in slightly different spot. Hard to hunt around the area... tried a buddy at work and still couldn't get his help so used a different buddy

I grew up in AR. Spent my hunting years in Torbrook and Bloomington. As I got older, I used to hunt out in the Zwicker lake area and along the #10 hwy all the way to Bridgewater. Less congestion, too many poachers around home. Fella could get shot. Lots of places along the #10 highway used to be very nice to hunt. I have been away for 12 years now, so that may have changed with land sales, etc, but I always liked Bear River area (family/friends) and Caledonia. I hunted in Annapolis Royal area a few times, but mostly skirted the military range in Granville.
Lack of hunting opportunities is the biggest reason I won't ever retire home.
You may get some assistance from members of the "North Mountain Gun Club". Used to be a pretty decent bunch of guys. Some of them may still be around. Tell them Ted Dahr sent you.
Great bird and rabbit places in Nictaux have become subdivisions, now. My parents used to own the property that has the go-kart track and mini-golf in Nictaux.

I would definitely help out a service member and place him under my wing for at least the first year. Its unfortunate that your not posted in Southern Alberta, I would "sacrifice" my time for you, as what you are performing for your country, et al. Sorry, I really don't know any resources in your posting.

It takes time and effort for a stranger in a community new to him, to make the right connections and gain trust to the point where key people will share important information.
Be patient and don't expect any tangible results from the faceless internet with hunting season already in full swing. Only numerous face to face meetings with like minded souls will bare any fruit.
Volunteer in your community, help out and befriend farmers/rural land owners in the off season with offers of manual labor such as fence repair, cleaning out stalls, etc.
Gain trust and respect. Become thier friend.
It would be prudent to approach sheep farmers and make some time available for varmint hunting during lambing season. Outside of the boundaries of deer hunting season. This could be viewed as a selfless act and your positive reputation would grow locally IMO.

my 2 bits only

Make friends with someone in the Annapolis Royal to Berwick area with access to an orchard or better yet, the guys that owns the orchard.

Hopefully you didn't just come from a base out West. The hunting here will depress you to the point of requiring medication.

If you want to go hunting in Lunenburg County let me know via PM.

@Track: Thank you and if I ever find myself out in Alberta, I may take you up on that offer!

@Gerard: I would love to go hunting out there this season (2015 season), if the offer still stands. I will PM you soon. Thanks.
