Help, is this an sks-d

Let the bayo dangle then grab the handle and move it down, you may have a quick detach bayo, not too common.

my SKS-D, cruciform bayonet is riveted
to remove is lorreur especially after that to restore
not possible
Finally, yes, but with a lot of trouble for something not original

You could buy those in the 90's, there were ones with no bayonet, monte carlo stock and a plain wood magwell. There were also those with a more regular stock, bayonet and the magwell was lined with metal. I think you could even buy them with the stock painted black for $60 IIRC.

Hey Fenceline, here is the D "removable" bayonet. Here are some pics for your reference. I have never seen this style on any other SKS's except D's. I have two with bayo (both this type) and two without bayo.

right side of bayo lug...notice the rivet

left side of lug

bayo in relaxed position

underside of bayo, note you cannot remove the "spring assembly"

optimum angle at which to remove/attach bayo. Bayo is in the open position

bayo now attached

this is my D stock. Note the bayo slot is for a blade, not the spike. Much like the one in the OP's picture.

Interesting. I'm sure mine is attached with a screw but I think I'll look again. Cool variant for sure. You should send the pics to yooperj and Howie Bearse. I think they come here occasionally but frequent the US sites more.

Why did the op delete the first post? Hardly helps spread the knowledge of what wad passed on.

If this is the one you mean, yes it us an SKS-D. Identical to mine. It has the standard SKS mag latch rather than the AK style mag latch. Also gas a bolt carrier that will accept stripper clips. Seeing as there is no bolt hold open device, it really isn't functional for stripper clip feeding.

Ok my newly acquired M is actually a different D then.
-Stock is long gone but had a spike bayo and was screwed not riveted,
-bolt is all matching and has a stripper clip guide vs my other "D" didn't,
-mag release isn't the typical "D" AK style mag release but rather a factory modified Sks one.
-on receiver... " SKS 7.62x39mm made in China by XZ "with 245xx#
