Help! I've royally Screwed up my Kar98K bolt!

Hi Beaver so you are saying I should be able to continue unscrewing the rear of the bolt without getting the cocking knob back on first? I just need to know, I don't want to force it.

Yes, with with the pliers (preferably with something to protect it; rubber band or what have you) to gently pull back the firing pin and rotate the shroud.

Edit: I know pliers are not the proper tool, but taking into consideration of the circumstances I doubt the OP has the proper tools or know how.

I have a vice to place the bolt body in when I am done work. I might need to modify some needle-nose pliers for the job. What is the proper tool to pull back the firing pin?

I would bend the tips at a 90 degree angle to make hooks to grip the lugs on the pin.

If you want to take your time you can make a tool with brass pipe that has a 1/4" interior diameter. It will take some craftiness to cut and modify it to fit the rear most lugs.

Consider making a suitable tool to pull the cocking piece back next time.

I'm just trying to help and solve the problem. Sure my methods are crude, but effective.

Okay, I'm just trying to pull it up now. It's on really good.... I've tried filing down a cheap pair of needle nose but need to work on them a bit more, keep on sliping off when I try and pull.

Finally got it off! Thanks for the help... still stuck with the safety always on fire though and I am sure that I now have all the cosmoline out. Should I file down the ramp on the safety as some people have recommended?

No, just... no.

I think you might want to look this up on the 'web, just to double check that your bolt is together properly. Honestly.

Review some of the posts here, and you might notice something along a similar vibe...

...and now you're wondering should you take a file to your safety... No. Just... no.

Please (for your sake, its not MY gun,) double check you have the bolt back together properly. I can't tell from here.

Hi... okay the bolt sleeve is on all the way. The safety will flip but wow you really have to thwap it for it to go into the middle position. I was just wondering because some people have said that the ramp angle on the safety needed to be adjusted for it to work.

Some Yugos are know to be that way. If it works, just leave it.

With the Yugo refurb K98k's you have to remember that they are made up of a variety of m/m parts so things like the safety may not operate as smoothly as it should due to tolerance stacking and variances from one maker to the other.

If it works, just leave it.
