Help looking for a good training 22 lr Rifle.

Good info, call tradeex guys and tell them what you are. Looking for, check on line to see what they have. Great guys to deal with, straight forward! Good luck.

The guys at Tradex are top notch! Definitely speak to them and see what they have.
Nordic Marksman look like they have everything when you start to get serious but I bet they have advice and can set you up with the accessories like harness and sights that will make an entry level rifle feel like the higher end guns.

The front sight takes any standard Anschutz pattern inserts as well, nothing proprietary.
Rear can be outfitted with a diopter with an adapter... probably need to have it made as they are not common threads.

Does your local biathlon club have gun rentals? For example the edmonton club does. Some that do, guns can be rented for a season and stored used at the local club range.

The S&L single shot rifle has got to be one of my favourites in my cabinet. Beautiful wood & steel and shoots very accurately with inexpensive CCI SV ammo.
It's a heavy rifle so more suitable shooting off the bench.

If you can find one at tradex in decent shape for $300.....do it. I paid more for mine off the EE from a great G'Nutter who did a fantastic job refinishing it:)

Don't forget the harness with which to carry the rifle while skiing. They may be available on the used market from those connected to biathlon. To buy a new one is close to $300.00, so they aren't inexpensive. On the other hand, almost 50 years ago when biathlon was relatively unknown in Canada, except perhaps among ski clubs with a strong Scandinavian membership, I remember biathletes fashioning a jury-rigged harness with hunting rifle slings or even ropes.

Another part of the gear of course are the aperture sights, without which a biathlete cannot compete. There are some rifles, such as the Savage shown earlier in this thread, that can be purchased with sights but do not come with a front sight snow cover.

Repeating rifles are more desirable in biathlon than single shot firearms, although it is not unheard of new-to-the-sport shooters using single shots successfully while learning the sport.
