Help me build a ###y long range AR

20 inch is the longest you want, anything pass that you are losing velocity.

Your not going to loose velocity by increasing barrel length over 20". Perhaps you're referring to rate of acceleration which may start to decrease. Although there are so many factors, my little brain won't even go there.

OP:

For "Long Range" .223 you're looking at 20~24 inch barrels. I think an 18.5' Barrel will do everything to ever want it to do though. 5~500 (more if you're cool) yards depending on optic/ammo, like 99% the velocity of a 20" barrel and more comfortable to point. Try some 68~75gr Hornady BTHP or Amax loads. They're affordable and not too hard to tune.

AR’s can be very accurate with the optimum setup. This is built on an Aero Precision Receiver set.

As mentioned - start over with a NR receiver.

Here's mine:

-Maccabee Defence receiver set (late 300's - no issues)
- Criterion 20" Hybrid barrel
- Surefire Procomp
- Geissele 15" Mk14 rail w/Geissele gas block
- Geissele SSP trigger (meh)
- Colt full auto BCG
- Magpul A2 stock
- Nightforce 3.5-15x50 in ADM 20MOA Recon mount

Around 0.6-0.75 MOA with 77gr PMC X-tac match. I think i can do better with handloads. Nailed 30 rounds/30 (full mag in the US) from 500 yards on 2/3 IPSC with 55rg bulk Fed ammo. It's plenty accurate for my needs. Best part? It's NOT AN AR.
