They say once you go black, you never go back! .. Ahh bad joke.

Anyway, i have no budget, well maybe, wanna keep it under $4k or so. I have Rpal, but would prefer if it wasn't.

Criteria:

- I am left handed, i want a lefty gun.
- I want quality, easy maintenance, and reliability (needs to work well for the inevitable zombie apocalypse)
- I want fairly compact, ( had a Tavor previously, may get it again, perhaps there is something better? AR?)
- .223
- I dont care about resale, I am buying it for me
- I want a nice optic for it ( separate from $4K budget) something that is quick acquiring not more then 3X
- Don't try sell me your used gun (unless its got only a box or two thru the pipe)
- I want to buy this thing in Alberta, and before Turdeau dis-allows me my right

I come from lots of hunting rifle experience, but need a nice mid range gun, that is not 4ft long and semi auto for funzies.

Left handed stag 3gr with elcan specter dr or 3.5 x 35 acog
im not sure what your definition of compact is.
not sure you can buy it in alberta, armseast sells them

Might not be what you want (nor is it in Alberta.), but I have a restricted status (RPal required for purchase) all black Daniel Defense M4V7 of 2014 vintage BNIB, I'ved been thinking of selling to fund another project.

No handling marks because it hasn't been handled and is unfired, for sale (purchased new at Wolverine).

Includes separately purchased set of Mag-Pul Pro steel sites, pinned to #5/30Rd. factory magazine and DD hard case along with DD manual.

Price is $1,500 and you pay shipping/Insurance if wanted.

Cheers D

P.S. I f this is not to your liking I'd suggest a left handed Stag AR as MikeTheBike has suggested, a (Restricted Status) Colt Canada SA20 or SA15.7 and/or the Tavor for an Non-Restricted semi.-auto. .223 rifle.

You might want to consider a bushmaster ACR with nonrestricted barrel conversion. Even if Trudeau goes full retard on us he won't know you have it. ;)
While its not 100% left handed all the controls are ambi and work the same from both sides. No I'm not trying to sell you mine. Lol.
Here's a pic

HK MR223 14.5 barrel

Well then the ATRS modern varmiter will be the exact gun you are after. "AR" ish, 223, short, high end, carbon fibre barrel option for light weight, from Alberta and their business is built on precision and quality. I believe Rick mentioned it is verbally approved just waiting for the documents which sounds like any day now and best of all Non Restricted.

I like the bushmaster quality and functionality, but its not a true lefty, but i want to support a true lefty/ambi manufacturer.

Stag looks interesting, i was looking at them online the other day, cool that it can be quite customized from factory, any idea what the lead time would be if a guy ordered it fancy'd up? I ordered a cooper rifle years ago, and was annoyed with the 2.5yr wait.

I will try find a retailer for stag in AB. But i may still consider tavor again, because they are so darn short, but are parts support any better then when they first come out? I sold it before, because i couldnt get a lefty bolt for months.

Question: would the AR be quieter shooting then the Tavor? Tavor is a hearing protection must, as everything is so close to your face. Mind you i should be wearing it more often, i dunno how them old cowboys would revolver shoot all the time, yet still hear themselves think.

call armseast, they are the expert sales in all things stag

yes an 18incher ar15 is quieter to the shooter than an 18incher tavor, it depends on the comp though.

the stag 3gr has a decent comp on it, basically comes with everything you need in one nice package.

What do they go for abouts in CDN? Looking at their website now...says nothing about a left hand model?

AFAIK they aren't true lefties, just ambi. There aren't many true left-handed black rifles. The aforementioned Stag3GL is one, and a left hand setup Tavor is virtually another.

If you're not worried about the restricted bit the Stag 3L with an Elcan Spectre DR would be my suggestion. They aren't in Alberta, but ArmsEast is the Stag dealer and quick to process, especially if in stock.

Here is a link to their page showing TRUE left handed AR rifles:

Its too bad the ejection port is only righty, that HK seems really nice as far as stats and images, also seen a $1000 price increase in just over a year

What about a leftie bolt Tavor? Seems to fit all your requirements. Under your budget, compact, supports optics...
Oops!
Just reread you had a Tavor.
Based on your requirements, I still think the Tavor fits the best. Since you have a hunting background, the Tavor is a better choice.

I've owned almost every non restricted we have available to us in Canada and the one I'm currently happy with is my converted to non restricted Bushmaster ACR.
There are a couple of new ones that haven't made it to Canada yet that I'll probably give a try and who knows what will be my favorite after that.
I also still own an AR180B-2 which is a great rifle if you can find one for a decent price.

All rifles besides bullpups can easily be fired from the left shoulder, the Tavor has the lefty bolt option but I wouldn't get a T97.

The HK and Kac are true lefty gun, well truly ambidextrous because they have built in ambi mag and bolt releases. Buy one else cry once. Go for it bra

If your budget allows you to get into the higher end AR's, if that's what you really want and you want solid reliability then go for it (HK and KAC). There is a difference. The static range plinker and competition guys might argue, and I'd agree if that is your benchmark, but they're designed to be taken into combat. Now you might not be going to war with it, but if you want something high end and are okay with it, don't be fooled into believing a lower or mid-range AR is anything close because someone else can get awesome groups from a bench.

I think you did the right thing by establishing your criteria first and then started inquiring about options.
