Help me buy a nice blackie! Experienced guys please, chime in.

I think you had the right gun originally - Tavor. With the left-handed bolt, sounds like exactly what you need. Add an ACOG TA11 or TA31, or Elcan OS4 or SpecterDR, and you're set.

HK 14.5 MR223. Or KAC SR15(LMT)in either 11.5 or 14.5. If you want true ambi they are the best choices

I love my Tavor, but if I were to go all out and not care about non restricted or cost, it would be a KAC SR15 or SR25 (or one of each?). I'm sure the HK is awesome too, but for some reason I would love to have a SR15 or SR25.

Are you wanting left eject? If so that seriously limits your options.

Non restricted? I'm not sure there is a better choice than a Tavor. I've had most of them outside of an ACR.

Also, I would try the Elcan Spectre DR if money wasn't an issue. Spending other peoples money is fun!

Edited to add: To be honest though it took some time for me to get used to the Tavor. Now shooting other rifles feels weird.

Anyone have any experience or know about Noveske's? http://lefthandrifles.com/cgi-bin/imcart/display.cgi?item_id=rifle14&cat=4&page=1&search=&since=&status=&title= can we get these here?

I might go with two guns, this way others can also use it, if i went with a nice AR15 platform and perhaps a tavor.. But i am unsure about a Tavor away, the big appeal is it is non-R, and really compact. But my very certain feeling is that it will soon be on the restricted list, if not on prohib. I really believe Justine Turdeau will put it there.
So now i am really debating about getting a few AR's in my hand to see how they feel. Maybe a nice right hand ar with full ambi controls wont be too bad, but i still prefer to support companies that dedicate to my lefty needs.

I might know a thing or 2 about Noveske and Stag arms.

The middle one is an Afghan with the stainless barrel.
The 14.5" stainless barrel weighs in at 2.0lbs
It's a great rifle although a little nose heavy if using a light weight buttstock.
I have a Magpul UBR on mine and it balances it perfectly.
If you want a lighter weight go with their N4 light CHF barrel which are approximately 4 ounces lighter.

Gen 1 Noveskes' use upper and lower receivers made by Continental Machine Tool Inc (CMT) which is the parent company of Stag Arms.
If you're unaware Stag is the best known maker of left handed AR-15's.
CMT also provides Noveske with bolt carrier groups and parts kits from what I can tell.

Noveske still makes The Gen 1 which are built on Mil Spec uppers and lowers as compared to the Gen 2 and 3 which have flared magwellls and billet uppers. The 10.5" CQB (bottom) is a Gen 2. The flared magwelll and integrated over sized trigger guard are great.

You can pretty well sum up Noveskes claim to fame as being their barrels.
They are the closest thing to match barrels but with chambers designed to be capable of full auto fire reliability in all conditions.

I would call their barrels MOA capable of slightly below MOA.
You may get smaller groupings out of Wilson Combat stainless barrels if you read many of the American reviews but I've never seen anyone question the reliability of the Noveske barrels in adverse conditions and that has also been my first hand experience with Noveske.

Now I will give you what may be the bad news on the left hand rifle you posted.
First of all it is a left handed upper but with no ambi controls other than the safety.
You will need a Norgon ambi mag catch, a Raptor or BCM ambi charging handle and an ambi bolt release such as the phase 5 to make the rifle fully ambi.

I have been a Noveske fan for over 5 years and I have never seen a left handed rifle or upper advertised on their site. You can call and ask if they offer them in left handed configurations.
Also the ad shows a Gen 2 lower which has been discontinued for over a year.
There is nothing wrong with a Gen 2 lower.
Some people like myself prefer the Gen 2 which is forged, over the Gen 3 which is billet.
The handguard is also an older SWS quad rail which is no longer shown on their site since the switch to keymod like the handguards on my rifles.

Nice post and pics thump_rrr. Thanks. Agreed, Noveske is another to notch brand. I was not aware they made left hand rifles but then again I wouldn't be looking for one. That would be a good option for the OP.

I'm currently happy with is my converted to non restricted Bushmaster ACR.

I'm a Swiss guy myself, but you would likely have to buy used, and they certainly are not compact. With that in mind, I would agree with cr5. I haven't owned an ACR, but have handled them, and they are brilliant. ACR would be an awesome non restricted gun to own.

As a side note, I'm a lefty as well, and have found all of the guns I will mention to be just fine to shoot as a lefty, and would not change much about them. The Tavor I have a even run with the right bolt in for 3 gun. Not an issue. I know you want a lefty gun, but honestly, all guns are pretty easily used by us southpaws.

I've owned an HK Sl8, which was alright. It had a pistol grip lower which made it nice to handle. Very precise with its bull barrel. Needed proprietary mags which sucks, but there is a lower to change that. A very fun gun, but a bit heavy. Can be had for XCR money or less for the stock configuration.

XCR is fun, and likely one of the least expensive options. I've owned two and been happy with them. One was insanely accurate, the other really not at all. Left side charging handle is kind of sad panda for me. I like right side so I can keep my strong hand on the gun.

My Swiss' have been my favourite rifles ever. They are just awesome, though a bit long. I recently sold my Tavor to get into a Swiss. Very accurate, very reliable, which made for some fun 3 gunning and is a deadly coyote hunter. There is some poi shift with the bipod. I recently did a thread highlighting that. Uses proprietary mags, however they look cool and are strong as anything else. You do mag changes like an Ak, which is either fun and awesome, or crappy, depending on your view. I prefer the rocking mags over AR style.

Tavor is a gorgeous rifle, which you are aware of. It shoots reasonably accurately, but always reliably. I had some issues with some mags not feeding all the time, and shooting from prone was sometimes an issue. I killed a lot of coyotes with this gun.

I own an AR, but don't know much about them. I just own one to be an AR owner :p they are very light, and a lot of fun to manipulate. But I can't take it in the tractor, so I don't use it much.

Long story short, my recommendation would be:
ACR non restricted
Tavor
SL8

If you can get over buying used and the length issue, get a a Swiss! Or find a non restricted Swiss carbine, apparently they are just the cats meow.

What about this???? Should be available sooner than later IMO.

Hopefully in the next few days I can shoulder a few rifles, gonna have to make a number of calls as most local dealers dont advertise their AR/ACR stock. So far the noveske and ACR are ones I really wanna hold, will look into others, perhaps HK, but a real lefty is still the plan.
I think i will still get a Tavor as well, but will wait for the fire sales, when JT gets it put onto The R list. No doubt in my mind it will be going there, I'd bet lunch it'll be on there in 2016 sometime. He is moving the firearm classification responsibilities from government officials, back to a police/womens group, and we all know how desperately they want those types arms out of law abiding citizens hands as much as possible.
Anyway, i read it on a liberal government mandate page, so it should be credible. Oh yea, and they are determined to make ATT's a pain again, they state. Anything to slow/inhibit the gun owner.

I'd say Tavor but you've already had one of those.. But maybe an XCR-L or ACR? Those are nice.

So the last few weekends I shouldered a few AR's,still wanna look at an ACR, but using a righty AR isn't exactly the end of the world.
Any dealers in central Alberta carry Noveske? I really wanna see one of them and find out about lefty units and their availability to me. I really like the Eotec+magnifier, so i think I will go with that for my optic choice.

So I am interested in maybe trying 3 gun (wanna watch a few matches first) do you think a 10.5" AR would still be a good barrel size option for that? I really like the compact ones.

There are so many brands of AR's its difficult to determine which of these locally sold ones are of high quality, not necessarily just expensive. Checked out a few gun shops, obviously the stocked units they have are great according to them. If i choose to go with a righty unit.

Not sure if anyone is following this thread or not, but I'm planning on buying a KAC SR-15 11.5" from OneShot. Never purchased from them before, but they are the only ones I could find as a dealer. Also they are a vendor here.

My thought process is that they are already set up they way I want, having full Ambi controls (so they make a good attempt at lefty's needs) so rather then buying a middle road AR, then throwing more money at it to leftorize it. I guess the brass ejection is a non issue for leftys from what i hear everywhere, so i will give it a go. I hope a 11.5" will be fine for a 3 gun.

But now i have to search for a good optic, i really wanted an Eotech 512 with magnifier, but after reading about issues in the optics forum, i need to find an equivalent or better system. I want a nice 2 moa dot or smaller, perhaps aimpoint or vortex, not sure how they compare?

New to this, am i using a sound thought process here?
