Hello CGN,

I am looking at acquiring a new tactical shotgun and I am torn between the benelli supernova tactical 14" and the canuck operator. Both are available at around the same price point. I like the idea of the a semi action on the canuck, but I think the benelli would be better build quality and therfore more reliable. Usage would primarily be for wilderness carry.

Does anyone have any experience with either firearm they'd be able to chime in with?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

The Benelli is lighter and more compact than the Canuck, those two points are big if you’re intending to be hiking around and packing this in the woods.

Otherwise yes reliability and build quality on the Benelli is a step above the Canuck, which the Canuck being more rough and a bit of hit or miss reliability but most of them do seem to work well.

Since you said wilderness carry for your primary usage IMO the short and compact and particularly reliably pump is the better choice.

The Revolution Armory Impact R4 is a quality Turkish clone of the Benelux M4. Reliability is top notch and for semi auto blasting fun with birdshot and buckshot it can’t be beat, plus it has an adjustable rear ghost ring sight if you intend to zero it for slugs. My understanding is that it is a slightly better option than the Canuck operator and is available in some pretty sweet colours last I checked, such as burnt bronze or nickel plated

I guess my real question is if the price of a semi auto Turkish made shotgun out weights a pump action benelli. On second thought I think I may have just answered that.

Not a reliability opinion, but I prefer the ergo's of an 870 or 590 over the Super / Nova pumps.

Never fired a "non-M4", but they get good reviews.

I'd probably stick with the Benelli over the other for now, eventually have both. ;)

I’ve played with both ..and the 1301 has an edge over the m4.....that’s my opinion
Dame they were nice to play with
I wish I would of bought them both
Money ....money

I own both, the Benelli is a great pump gun for sure, the Sulan tac 12 hasn't let me down once either and all I have run it in is bird and target loads from new cycles perfectly. I also have 6 870's, mossbergs pump and semi 930 etc.

If it's between the two, always go Benelli.

If a pump gun is the game, stick with the big 2. If semi interests you, it's the 1301 and m4, as heavily highlighted. If you like a sporter stock, get the 1301....if you like a pistol grip, get the 1301 with a Mesa ;)

Ive got an older Mossberg 500, 18.5 barrel dressed taticool but i have second longer barrel if i ever want to switch for a more hunting set up.

I was shooting skeet last week and regularly got a 2nd shot in with lots of time. It fast and smooth but as with everything practice makes perfect. (i need to practice more) For Pump the 500/590 mossburg or 870 wingmasters seems to be the most common i see. Lots of easy to find new and used add on parts. and the price difference isn't much vs Turkish so just go brand name :)

I do see a significant price difference in the semi's where I could see myself buying a Trurkinelli

LOL, he asks about two specific shotguns and gets recommended semi's that cost 3-5x as much.

I’d personally pick the Nova but I’ve heard lots of positive reviews of Turknelli’s.
