I'm looking for opinions based on ownership and use. Let me know which 9mm you prefer and why. I will be using this gun for target shooting, and possibly IPSC type competition as well.

I'm mostly interested in choosing between these makes and models.

CZ 75, 75b, SP-01, 85 etc
Beretta 92s, FS, M9
Browning Hi-Power

Thanks,
Bongobob

For what you say you are going to be using it for there is only one choice to make in the models you listed, the CZ SPO1 Shadow is the best choice.

CZ SP-01 Shadow would be best choice for IPSC Production.
CZ 85 Combat with better sights would be very good for IPSC Prod and IDPA SSP and ESP. Both guns have very good trigger out of the box, reasonably priced, easy to work on, parts and accessories are available. Both are in 9mm that makes shooting cheaper than other calibers. There is .22LR conversion kit Kadet that can be mounted on either gun for cheap practice, and is very accurate and reliable.

For IPSC the Spo1 shadow is widely used in production class. It's popularity is because it is very accurate (more so than many other 9mm I've shot), it's full frame metal which make it very low recoil and easy to keep on target for fast shooting, it's tough and not prone to failure, it eats almost any ammo (I have read some brands of the 147 grain jams but there is an easy fix and 124 shoots really well), it's been used to win world championships a number of times now (probably why you see it so much in ipsc), and if it stops working it's heavy enough to hit someone with.:ninja:

That being said there are a ton of people that shoot ipsc production class very well with Glocks and Berettas and many other types pistols. They are all well made and tough. The best thing to do is go to a store and handle them if possible. See which one fits you best, which one points naturally best, and buy that one. If it ends up being the Sig rather than the CZ you won't be disappointed. Just pick one and shoot it alot!

I have a 92fs and 75b. *I* can shoot CZ better, but Beretta is WAY more forgiving when it comes to ammo. Both are great guns, even better in stainless! ;)

I've got a 92 fs, a sig 226 LE, and a springfield XD. Each is good in it's own way, beretta is a very well built , accurate piece, Sig is very easy, comfortable to shoot, BUT, the XD is my go to ride, easy to clean, accurate, the least expensive and with over 12000 rounds through it and tons of IDPA matches it has never once misfired, FTE or jammed. And i've shot all kinds of different ammo out of it. JMHO.

My SIG P226 is a great gun will fire anything you put into it without a complaint
the grip is alot bigger than most check to make sure it fits you hand.
Also have a CZ SP-01 Tactical which is also a great gun, fits the hand really nice but can be picky about ammo type
Have fun!
