So i recently purchased a Weatherby Vanguard .308 carbine with a burris fullfield ii 3x9x40, from a fellow Gunnut. Still waiting for it show, but i do intend to put a bipod on it when it arrives.

I plan to use the rifle for learning how to shoot past 300 yards, and get familiar with DOPE on a scope. I currently only shoot open sights on military surplus firearms (mosin, m305, sks, k98, ect...), and my henry h001 .22lr with a vintage bushnell banner 4x.

Sooo... i do know that i don't want some massive 2 foot bipod. i want something maybe 1/2-1 foot in height, and one that attaches to the sling lug.

Do some bipods perform better then others? What features should i look for, and which should i avoid? Is their weight differences? Which bipod are you running on your tack driver?

cheers,

I went with a harris s-brm 6-9, it was 150$ at reliable gun attaches via sling swivel. Only thing missing is the lever to lock it out, but you can usually get one for about 20$. There are a bunch of harris clones for much cheaper.

Get a low Harris. There are a few variations, but make sure you get the swivelling version with the notches on the legs. For pure target shooting the BR version is good, for field shooting you will often find it too low because of vegetation. Fit it out with a Pod lock and put a level on your gun. I must have a dozen Harris bipods. I don't use them much for general purpose anymore but there are some rifles where it never comes off.

I wish i could have got this for 500. Rifle retails at 750, scope 200ish. But i am picken up what ypur putting down. Those atlas bipods sure look sweet, but the price tag is pretty bitter. I had no idea bipods got so pricey.

Has anyone tried the chinese knock off? Some reviews say its almost as good, others say its garbage, others love them just as much. 64 bucks on e bay

I have one of the knock offs ... ive had it for 15 or so years, only problem I have with it is the pivot tensioner comes loose on its own. Maybe some thread locker would work.... otherwise it's pretty good. And I also own a real Harris as well as an atlas. The Harris style allows for a faster deployment than atlas as well.

Im considering snagging a clone.

I dont recommend a chinese knockoff for serious shooting, they will work but are pretty flymsy, a Harris 6-9 with swivel is worthed on this accurate rifle... JP.

Haha JP, you would know about the accuracy! The harris is more affordable forsure and may be worth the extra cash. Is there any online vendors that offer the bipod at a fair price of the top of your head?

I have 2 Harris S-BRM with the KMW POD-LOC, they work great as well, But they are ugly as sin and have stupid springs. I never noticed how expensive Atlas biopods have gotten over the years. Picked mine up directly from ATLAS 3-4 years ago with mil discount. Wouldn't buy one at today's prices that's for sure.

Dont cheap out and get the non-swivel model, you will regret it.
