help me choose a new rig

My first choice is the Ruger. I have a Mod. 77 MkII 7MM Rem Mag laminated/stainless. I had the trigger reworked for $25.00. It not only shoots great, but it is a beautiful thing to look at.
I have a Savage .223 it is a great gun, accutrigger is great & I love it, but it is not the beauty Queen the Ruger is.
I think you should go for a gun you fall in love with at first sight. They're sort of like a woman they're gonna be around a long time

I'm quite fond of Rugers these days. I like the integral scope mounts an dthe one piece bolt handle for ruggedness. I wish that they didn't peddle that shiny stainless barrel myself. I'd prefer the Target Grey that they offer on other rifles in the line. But pound for pound the Ruger is a pretty nice rifle. I haven't played with the Tikka at all but it seems people are split as to liking it and hating it. I've got a Savage as well and if their sporters shoot as well as my LE2B then they'd be a helluva good buy too.
As for scopes, 4x is really all you need. That 1.5-4x you've got should do just fine. I prefer matte scopes on Stainless rifles as well. Maybe go with a stainless base and matte rings. My brother has this set up on his A-Bolt and it looks pretty damned nice.
