hi, guys!
i rarely post anything anywhere but enjoy reading you.
this time i need your help
just bought a new kimber 84l in 30 06
and i'm shopping for a scope, my idea was to make it in to the most versatile hunting gun so i started looking at leupold vx-6 2x12 x42mm but i'm not sure if i can mount it low enough and still get the bolt to clear.

any idea on a good scope or the right rings ect.
?

Well if you have the money for it, you chose an excellent scope... that will cover pretty much everything... don't worry about the mounting height at this point there are many hundreds of options and you will find the right one for your rig. Pretty much any of the VX-2, VX-3 and up scopes in the 3-9 or 4-12 range will workout fine.

thanks for the confidance boost Hoyt
shooting game i would say up to 350 but still like the idea of hunthing milk jug and pop can at 600 800 y lol

Get the one that has a laser rangefinder built in if your pockets are that deep lol. But really you cant go wrong with Leopold or a vortex crossfire or a Bushnell for the low to midrange. I have a Bushnell doa 600 and love it. The fact that its like a$165 acope is a bonus. Whats your reticle prefrence?

i really like the simple duplex of leupold i was considering many option at first, a mil dot would be nice to calculate range and all that (was looking at nxs compact 2.5x10 32mm)but comparing the 2 option side by side the duplex is so much faster and easier to me even nicer whit a small centre illumination (also looked at trijicon 3x9 40mm)
but i'm ready to put some money down for the right set up and the CDS turrets + firedot illumination + nice optic + honest price (forget about swaro or s&b)puts the vx-6 ahead so far my only concern is with such a beefy scope am i gonna get it low enough so I can get behind and rest naturally on the stock
like i would normally whit a cheaper 1'' scope whit less bell and whistles?

the vx 3 and vx r are really nice being smaller 2.5x8 36mm and 3x9 40mm illum but both are like 2.6X7.8 and 3.3x8.6 as far as actual magnification while the vx6 is a true 2x12 illum exploiting the whole 30 06 range of application

Scope range is expressed 3"-"9 or 2.5"-"8... not 3"X"9 or 2.5"X"8...

The "to" symbol (-), denotes the range from-to... the "by" symbol (X) denotes the objective diameter the zoom range is limited to...

Ergo;

2-7X32mm
3-9X40mm
4-16X44mm
6-24X50mm

Etc...

Forgive the pet peeve... it has been one of those days...

A $165 Bushnell cannot compete with a VX-2 or VX-3 for clarity or build quality... and I wouldn't put one on a Kimber.
