Buy a STI Trojan (used) in .40. Get a new barrel and recoil spring. Build complete.

And you can shoot .40 out of it to keep your practice costs down.

Or, get a STI Nitro 10 and you’re done.

The 10mm is a great ctg & every self respecting 1911 collection deserves to have a least one of them in the battery.

I've owned Colt Delta's for many years. Currently, still have one, pretty much stock.

I did have a .40 S&W barrel fitted to it, though. There is a plethora of free, once fired, .40 S&W brass left locally on the local ranges twice a year as the local municipal police complete qualifications. Sometimes it's just nice to plink with .40 on the Delta, too. :)

so from what i ve read online it is possible to convert a 40s&w 1911 to a 10mm without much problems?

except a new barrel and new springs anything else im missing?

might be a solution to help me choose the one i want.

Only reason why I don't own a 10mm is because I don't want yo go chasing my precious brass every time. A 40SW conversion barrel would be ideal. Shoot a few rnds of 10 for giggles then swap over to 40.

I started shooting 10mm in my first Colt Delta circa early 1990's. Back then 10mm components were fairly scarce up here in Canada. So, losing brass was a huge issue. The .40 which itself introduced in 1990 wasn't often seen up here then either.

Like shooting full house .357 Mag out of wheelguns, the novelty of full house 10mm wore off for me too eventually. With the plentiful source of .40 S&W brass locally since around circa 1995 when the local police adopted the Glock M22 it made sense to go with a .40 S&W barrel fitted to my Colt Delta. Don't worry much if any of that brass goes missing, there's always a ready source for it!

Have had a yearning for a delta elite for a while...guess I’ll have to scratch that itch sooner or later....

That is a range of options. Tactical v classic, price range etc...
based on that, hard to gauge what you may or may not be happy with.

If you want value, i’m sure the RIA, Ruger or Remington would be fine. I’d pick one of those over the sig. not a fan of sig 1911, though many like them.

Up a notch you get the colt. Not sure it would be noticably better than those others frankly but it is a colt and does have some nice features.

From there, If you want a cut above in terms of fit and finishing, a Dan Wesson or STI would be worth it IMO. I have both and like them equally but they are totally different. I’d probably skip the Springfield as it would be the same price but probably not as refined (unless of course you really liked the features).

What weight spring do you run in your delta when running .40 as opposed to when you're running 10mm? I'm just waiting for a day to take my omega out to play...and some magazines...but im not sure if I should run .40 through it with the same spring.

Dual extractors though, so no barrel changes for this guy.

If you haven’t already bought there’s a nice DW Bruin 10mm in the EE for a good price. You’d be hard pressed to do better for the money being asked.

The best 10mm in the market, if you have to own one, is Glock's model 20. Not a fan of all the other steel on steel designs.

Some of the steel on steel 10mm makers might offer a longslide version; Glock makes the G40 with a 6" barrel and MOS version. Want a compact? Who makes a factory production steel on steel frame 10mm?
Glock makes the Model 29. Buy a 106mm barrel and your good.
