Help me choose my first bolt action rifle - Which is best for me?

Buy used in good condition. Buy 308 or 30-06, as you can buy them anywhere and always will be able too (I'd take the 308). Buy the one that fits you and that you are comfortable operating. My first bolt gun was an a-bolt, and I can't stand a long bolt throw or anything other than a tang safety now. You may have different preferences.

I would get the Tikka T3 in 30-06, 1st choice, 308 2nd.

I haven't been terribly impressed by the 270 and the two my son had when he was younger weren't that recoil friendly.

I'm a fan of the vanguard series 2. I also have a A bolt and an X bolt. It's hard to argue with the vanguards moa Gurantee. They shoulder great like a browning and have the 3 position safety. They are also decent on a bench. My 2 cents is a stainless vanguard series 2 in 308.Yes a little more recoil ,but out of the 3 hands down the best caliber for target shooting to hunting. Match ammo to bulk in 308 not so with 270 or 30 06.Spend the other $300 on a sightron hunter series 3-12.

get something in 308 as they are easier to get.
avoid the new remington garbage.
get a vx1 to start.
you will be fine.

I don't know why everyone likes stainless hunting rifles. If you go through the paces of wearing camo and blocking your scent, don't you think a gleaming silver barrel is easy to see for the animal?

Tikka T3 lite in .270 blued/synthetic.
