Help me choose my mid level optic

Hey CGN,

I've been trying to find an optic somewhere in the $400-$700 (700 is my max) range.

It's going to top my Remington 700 sps varmint in 308. Right now its sitting in a Bell and Carlson light tactical (the hook stock). The problem is, I've been doing so much research that I need to take a step back and can't choose.

I'm looking for something with 16+ max magnification that I can use for 300-600m. I want a mil/mil or moa/moa turret and reticle.

So far I'm between;

Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x50
Vortex Viper 4-16
Burris Fullfield II 6.5-20

Any thoughts?
 
I would take Vortex out of the equation simply because of all the warranty claims I have read about.
I've always had good luck with Burris and Bushnell, but if it was my max $700 I'd be buying a Leupold off the EE

edit: that looks like a long shot with your turret/reticule choices.

Ok so Vortex is gone.

I've really been looking at the Tactical 4200 by Bushnell.

Burris is hard to get updated information about. I see reviews of the E1 and and Fullfeild 2, but not much on the MTAC series. It's hard to see which one would fit.

I've never seen a sightron in person, but I hear they are good. I'll take a look!

Any other scopes I'm missing?
 
Personally Id stay clear of Bushnell I have personally had a nightmare service with them and they really don't have a good track record.

Stay away from anything in the 24x...a $400-$700 optic is gonna show its flaws anywhere past 10x in my experience.

Vortex Viper PST's are a nice optic. I have the 2.5-10x32 FFP moa/moa and have used it hard all winter on my coyote rifle and its held up fine, great glass, reticle is very nice and ballistic program on the net is top notch. I just moved it over to my Tavor and put a Swarovski Z5 on my coyote gun but I can honestly say I was impressed with it. You may see more people sending in Vortex simply because so many people own them vs say Burris or Sightron. If you do have an issue they will take care of you very fast...I dropped a pair of Vortex binos I had and it took 2 weeks to have them repaired.

I've had Burris optics as well and they were OK for what you get. Sightron has a big following but there are like 2 guys in all Canada that sell them and if warranty is important to you they have a limited 2 year with them. Nice how Sightron gives the Americans a lifetime warranty and everyone else gets much much less.

Bad time to buy new as most optics have jumped by 20% due to the dollar. I would seriously look at used on the EE. For $700 you can get a really good scope. Im by far an expert and other guys will tell you something completely different.

I've sent 3 Bushnells away for service because the reticle adjustments went for a s**t. Bushnell replaced each one with a new scope but it took over 4 months to get them back. It's decent that they replaced them with no questions asked, but it should not take 4+ months. One took almost 6 months.
I won't take a chance on another one. JMTC
 
I'm trying to find out if canadiangunnuts being the official Armasight dealer in Canada can get a Armasight Zeus 7 Thermal Imaging Riflescope - 7x, 160x120 Core, 60Hz in to the country.

if not, anyone know of any good Canadian shops that may sell something of equivalent quality and operation?

I checked out sightron, they sound great but the warranty seems a little dodgy about limited time and receipt. I've owned a few bushnells and been able to shoot a few vortex.

Does anyone have first hand experience with any Burris MTAC or higher magnification E1 or Fullfields?

It's looking like Bushnell is winning so far.

I'm keeping my eye on the EE.
 
Im not a big fan of the nikon BDC, and I think if I went for the mildot the adjustments are 1/4" at 100yd

The weavers are hard to find a dealer with alot of info, but Im looking. Same with the Burris.
 
I would check out sightrons, but if you're worried. Check out p and d, they have a nice Steiner for a good price right now. Used might be a good choice too, but the EE can have some good deals, but some prices on there are a little crazy.

Google "Burris Fullfield II vs. Leupold Mark 4". I have 5 Burris FFII and they leave nothing else to be desired - I've owned Sightron SII Bigsky, Vortex Viper PST, HS and Leupold VX3s, you will be happy with a FFII.
 
Sightron or Leupold, about neck & neck.

Bushnell Elite, only if it was one still made in partnership with Bausch & Lomb and available at a good price. Otherwise, forget it completely.

Vortex, dodgy optics IMO. Burris is nice optics, certainly better then Vortex but I've had two Burris scopes sent back for loose reticles.
