Help me choose my next hunting rifle

I would have to go with the vanguard or the Tikka. Sakos' are very nice but a tad on the pricey side for what you are getting. Any thought to a Remington 700 or model 7? Lots of options.

I took a look at the T3, and a A7 yesterday. The thing that struck me with both was the amount of play in their bolts. When open, both had lost of wiggle in them. My old model 70 has a million miles on it, and is twice as tight. I'm sure it doesn't affect the performance, but In my mind I thought they could be tighter. I am not after a "pretty" piece, just a truck rifle that shoots well. It seems like the expensive, and pretty stuff I have just collects dust in the safes. I guess I'm looking for function over form. $1000+- for budget wise (rules out Sako I guess), glass and extras on top of course. Detachable magazine is a must. That being said, I'm not sold on the two stage mag release of the Sako, but I guess at the cost of the mags, you don't want to loose any. I might check out the savage 16FCSS tomorrow. Those of you who have these, what are your thoughts on the the accu-stock and trigger?

I have decided on buying a new hunting rig this year. The planned chambering is 7mm-08. For reference my last "go to" rig was a model 70 Winchester. Savage? Tikka? Any input is appreciated.

In 7mm-08, I would recommend a Montana Rifleman or Kimber bolt action. Of course, I have snobby tastes ;)

For a rifle on the mid/low end of price try looking at the Weatherby Vanguard S2 in 7 08.

WSS had one here locally on sale.
It almost followed me home.
I figured this chambering didn't need the weight of the S2.
Nice rifle in every regards except the weight.
It would be perfect in price for a heavier caliber.

I have a savage 116 weather warrior. Great rifle. I don't have an accustock, but I have the accutrigger and I like it. I was planning on buying another in 30-06 but recently I have been looking at the T/C icon. It seems pretty slick too.

7mm-08!!! A very cool calibre. I was looking at one myself a short while ago in a Winchester Featherweight. Was kinda sorry I didn't go for it when I had the chance. FWIW, I'd look at the Ruger compact in 7mm-08 as well. 6 1/4lb plus scope and full mag might just be the ticket.
