Help me choose my next rimfire..

I'm in the market for a new rimfire rifle. I've got a 10/22, some cooeys and some other semis. I was going to put the bull barrel etc on the 10/22 but I think I'm more of a bolt guy. The cooey was in the family years, I've restored it and I think I'll just keep it in the cabinet and use it occasonaly. (dont like the tube mags anyway)

I've never bought myself a brand new gun before and I'm thinking I'd like a nice 22LR or 22WMR boltgun. I'm going to be fussy. I want a bull barrel and it has to look good with a black scope, as I've got a good scope allready. I think I've got it narrowed down to 2. Also not looking to spend too much. Mid range, as I wont be shooting competitivly or be doing anything to serious with it.

Marlin 982VS-CF

- 22WMR has more umph
- It's real pretty!

- 22WMR costs a tad more
- Cant find info anywhere on the "T-900 firing system" trigger set up

Im leaning towards the Marlin. Think it looks slick and I've heard good reviews of marlin 22WMR rifles. What do you guys think? Anyone have experiance with either of the rifles, or similar ones? Anyone know about this "T-900 firing system"? It'll be used for plinking and some varmenting.

I figured everyone would say that. Handled a CZ452 Varment the other day. Didn't shoot it though. Not overly fond of the way they look. I know that function should come before form, but Im aiming for both. If I did go CZ I think I'd go with the 16" american.

We are set up with the CZ distributor at work so It would probably just be a matter of waiting for a shipment to come to them. Still not sold on CZ anyway. I know CZ are excellent quality, but I think they may be too good for what I'm using it for( squires, plinking, etc)

For the price, you cannot beat the Savage. I got the pre accutrigger mkII-bv and it shoots little ragged one hole groups at 50m with almost any ammo(except remington thunderbolt, like lightning it never hits the same place twice). You can also get a new stock from sharp shooters supply if you want to pretty it up too.

I have 2 - 452 American CZ's in my gunsafe. One is a 22LR, and the other a 17HMR. These are both excellent rifles, with very acceptable accuracy. I also had a 452 American in 22WMR, which was very fussy about ammo, and would only shoot a couple of types well. I sold it off in favor of a Ruger 77/22M, which is very catholic in it's tastes for ammo. So far I have only found one type that it shoots poorly with. That being said, of your two options, I would lean a bit to the Marlin, simply because I have owned a Marlin 22 Mag [earlier model] and it was very accurate, and also ergonomically better than the Savage. I've never tried the Marlin, but a here are a few points to consider about the BV:

-It has a quality feel (at least mine does.) Well fitted, smooth action and controls, no tool marks or rough spots.
-Comes with standard Weaver-type mounts already attached.
-The Accu-Trigger is good (better than CZ 452s I've tried, though the set trigger on the 453 may be better.)
-Has a normal safety instead of the European type installed on CZs.
-It's very accurate and quite a bit cheaper than a CZ; don't know about the Marlin.
-Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I think the BV looks great, much better in the steel than in pictures.

You probably can't go wrong with either gun you suggested or the CZs some others have recommended.
 
I think for my purpose all would suit. Im still leaning toward the Marlin right now. I've got to find some info on the t-900 trigger system. The 982VS-CF is slick looking, the synthetic stock would make it light to carry as well. I think If I don't go with the marlin I'll go with the CZ452 Varmint.

X2, I owned one and liked it, didn't end up keeping it because my 10/22 does just fine for all my rifle rimfire needs

Ok now Im leaning CZ lol. Called our suppliers and the CZ 452 varmient and the Marlin 982vs-cf would cost me the same. I know the CZ is better quality so I think I'll have to bite the bullet and pick the better quality rifle, as opposed to the better looking.
 
So I think Im going to go with the CZ 452 Varment. Next question.. 17HMR or 22mag?? Want it for plinking, squirels, maybe coyotes in the future. I think to pick it up at the crappy tires or local shops there isnt much price difference. Probably wont do too long of shots with it.
