So I bought a T97 and ordered the T97 FTU.

I really like vortex products but I've gotten stuck on what optic to get for the T97 when I mount the FTU.

What would you choose if the options were between either a vortex red-dot and 3x magnifier or vortex viper pst 1-4x24??

both options are in stock at my local store and come to very near the same price point with the Red-dot setup slightly cheaper once rings are factored in for the Viper.

Hi

I myself would rather the 30 mag + red dot as it gives you the option of not using the magnification. also, a scope 1-4x you will probably only use the 1x or 4x so its a waste. the other positive point for the red dot is that there is no need to close one eye (unless using the magnifier.

thats just me. I tried both and for an assault rifle I would not use a scope.

cheers and have fun shooting ;)

I've never tried a magnifier on a red dot but I hear they suck.
The 1-4 scope will be more accurate for range work if you want to see what the gun can do and test reloads etc.
Do you have another scope you can use to work up loads or find ammo the gun likes?
The Red dot will keep the gun lighter and be fun for fast action plinking and quick offhand shots.
I'm a fan of red dots but I also like low power (true 1X and up) variables specially with illuminated reticles as they are quick like a red dot on 1X and can be zoomed in for precision work.
Which red dot were you looking at? The Sparc II would be my pick from vortex.

I've done both with my XCR and Tavor and prefer a scope with 1-4 over a dot. I also use my rifles more for hunting then range use.

BTW S1nnerman a T97 available to us Canadians is the farthest thing from an "assault rifle"....you're watching to much liberal newscasts.

Cheers!!

I actually really like the 1-4 PST.

I find that my 1-6 actually does see use at the lower powers. For example when you're firing off hand and need a little extra eye relief, but still want some sort of magnification.

hahaha what do you call it then. it has a short barrel, even non-restricted, it is semi-auto, it is not accurate what so ever and holds large mags (5 bullets in Canada but originally capable of way more). Also it is used by the Chinese police and army.

BTW your comment was kinda hurtful, I was simply giving my opinion on a scope. Maybe you should go read up on the rifle. You might learn a thing or two

Cheers

Take a look at the new Vortex 3X Spitfire, the size and price of a red dot with 3x magnification and BDC reticle of a scope.

Excellent suggestions all around. I guess all that's left is to go to the store and see what option looks/feels best to me.

thanks for the help everyone
