Help me decide - Marlin or Ruger?

i used to watch what the guys in competition were using, and then follow suit within a budget- well for the chevy sportsman's challange, there's an awful lot of people running the 10/22- look it up to see how difficult that course of fire is, and judge accordingly- my 22 selections consists of a nylon 66, 2 10/22s and an old cooey-you can't get the nylon new anymore, and the cooey is a 60 or whatever- it was my dad's and it's really badly bubba'd- so that jst leaves the 10/22s

My vote goes with the Marlin 60.

I have a older Savage semi and a pimped out Mossy tactical so I have a 60SS on order.

Because I like tube magazines, (works great on my Cooey 600) and I already have box type magazine semis.

The Ruger has people on both sides of the fence with loving it and hating it but it's definitely good for customizing.

795 is light and accurate and uses ten round box magazines which can be changed quickly. The 60 has a tubular magazine under the barrel which holds 14 rounds. Not difficult to load at all. I have a Nylon 66 with the mag in the butt stock and like if for hunting or woods carry as nothing projects from the rifle. It is slim, light and smooth.
I sold my 10/22 as it was always too blocky for me.
Either Marlin model will serve you well and will be accurate once, like any other .22lr rifle, you discover what ammunition it likes.

I went with the Marlin 60, but that was still when it was made at the Marlin factory. If I were buying one today, (until I hear about the quality control improving at the Remington plant), I'd go with a 10/22. Having said that, the Marlin 60 is fantastic, and the tubular magazine is considered more reliable then a box mag for a .22LR. The marlin is ready to go at 14 rounds, where-as you'll have to trust a 3rd party mag for over 10 rounds in the Ruger... so many things to consider, getting both is probably the next best option.
