I have 3 prospects at the moment, and I can't for the life of me make a solid decision.

I will say that I am leaning towards one in particular due to reticle, but I won't say which because I don't want to influence anyone else's vote.

Planning to put this scope on an ATRS Modern Sporter build in 223, so it will see target and varmint use, riding around in a truck, riding around on a dirtbike and possible riding around on a snowmobile.

Here are the choices:

Swarovski Z8i 1-8x24 (SFP)
Kahles K16i 1-6x24 (SFP)
Nightforce NX8 1-8x24 (FFP)

Give me all the dirt on each one. None of them are exactly cheap, and it's not like I can just drive 5 minutes to check them out and peak through each one at a LGS, so I want to try to make the best blind decision I can.

Appreciate any input!

just for thought... if youre gonna be bouncing around on a bike, in a truck or a skidoo.. Wouldnt something less costly to replace be a better choice? I mean it you take a spill or some bad bounces.. you could damage a good piece of glass... If I was out on the prowl with gun in hand, Id put on something i can see through, offers satisfactory light transmission and and doesnt break the bank. just mho buy a pizza with the money you saved

If you’re near Calgary this Christmas shoot me a PM, can meet up somewhere and you can check out the NX8 first hand.

I'm 4 hrs from Calgary, so unfortunately that probably won't be happening. But I appreciate the offer!

have you considered the trijicon accupower 1-8?

Hadn't really crossed my path in my searches, mind you I wasn't exactly doing a blanket search of all 1-8x scopes. Looks promising, just a tad bit heavier than the others I listed. The weight isn't a game changer though......I'll just wait and see how the recommendations go, but I think I'll add it to my short list of possibilities.

I'm also wondering how badly I'll want that extra 2x zoom if I only went with the 1-6x. Anyone else have both a 1-6x and a 1-8x? Is the extra 2x a game changer in any way?

I get what you're saying, but I'm willing to take a chance.

Once you use quality glass, you don't want anything but! I want a quality optic, but I also want it to be durable. At the very least so it's not getting trashed from minor bumps and bruises, and at the very worst so it's got a better chance of survival in the event of some of the larger, unexpected bumps.

accupower is FFP and has MIL or MOA in Red or Green Illum. Whether you like the reticle and the sleightly bigger size is up to you but it's a quality optic. Also has captured turrets which could be a huge plus considering the way you will be using it.

I was pretty disappointed with the 1-8 accupower. Of the three you mention I’ve only used the K16i which I’ve had 3, all of them have been very good. I’ve heard less than stellar reviews of the NX8, better reviews for the ATACR 1-8 but still not as good as the k16i. Should like even the new S&B CC short dot 1-8 isn’t as good as the K16i.

The Razor is a good scope, it’s red dot is very good and if that’s important I would consider it but it’s a step down in every other way to the Kahles and Swarovski.

Well I appreciate all the input, including the dirtbike video (because I got a good laugh out of that).

It seems there is 1 vote for 1 of the items on the list, but more votes for 1 item that wasn't on the list. I suppose this should be a fair reason to check into the Trijicon.

For what it's worth, I'd also recommend a Razor 1-6. I owned one and loved it. The glass is great (although I haven't looked through any of the optics you asked about). For a hard use optic, the Vortex optic is very appealing due to the warranty.
