Picking this beauty up on Tuesday and I need to decide on an optic. It's a Volquartsen SF-1 in .22WMR. According to the owner he gets 0.6 - 0.8 inch groups at 100yds with 50 grain Federal bulk ammo.

I need some suggestions on an optic for general plinking fun but that can also stretch out with some accuracy to 150ish yards.

Maybe a 2-10x or 3-9x? A 1-8 LPVO? 3X prism? What are your favorite optics for .22 Mag?

I believe the Vortex Vanquish 4-12X is still on sale at Cabela's. I have one on a Henry 357 X and although it is a little big for my needs, the price was right and the optic quite clear. Some places have the Vortex Crossfire on sale which is less power but smaller and lighter. My recommendation for on-a-budget but a durable, warranty backed scopes is usually Vortex and better shooters than me agree. Of course if budget is not a factor a Leupold of suitable magnification will certainly do the job. If you want a bargain priced illuminated scope, Vision King scopes on Amazon are a bargain, well built, if a bit heavy and large compared to the competition.

0.6" at 100 in a semi auto sounds a lot like a perfect alignment of stars and shooter and weather and luck. Happy to be proven wrong.

Put a 6-24 Arken or Match Pro on it and call it a day.
Possibly, but it doesn't sound far fetched considering the quality and experience of Volquartsen. This is not a build someone put together. It's a custom built rifle by Volquartsen. I guess I'll find out soon enough though!

6-24x seems too much for the distances I'll be shooting with this.

I think I'm leaning towards a 2-10x maybe?

Budget is around $1000.

I have a 3-9 on a 10/22 CSC rifle it’s good to about 100 yards. I can’t see impacts but with the reticle I can aim at a good target and the ammunition will group.

I have a VX Freedom EFR 3-9 from Leupold. I had the reticle changed from Fine duplex to T MOA on a recommendation from a friend and it’s awesome. I went with it because it has AO that adjusts down to closer ranges for the 22. The glass is fantastic on the scope for me. Couldn’t be happier.

I used to have a 2-12 on the rifle and it worked great I just wanted something a little more compact for hunting purposes as this is my fun hunting/plinking rifle while my bolt action 22lr is setup for long range.

For 150 yards I’d want to have 10x plus just for the sake of seeing the target if it’s small. If you’re just plinking steel targets an 8x or 9x will get you there no problem.

Thanks for the info. I Like the look of the Leopold TMOA reticle. I'd like to find something in that style.

Anyone have recommendations for a decent FFP 2-10x?

You guys think a 3-15x in FFP is too much for this gun?

Depends on how heavy you want it to be ? 2-10 is a good mag range but the FFP optics tend to be a little heavier and more bulky.

My 2-12 is an Athlon Helos BTR Gen 2. It’s definitely in your budget and FFP. It’s a little bulky cause it’s exposed turrets but currently it’s on my hunting rifle cause I know it works.

The reticle isn’t as nice as the TMOA but it works if you adjust.

Say 2.5-8, 2-10…
If for paper only, I would go a bit bigger something in the 16x+ just so you can see your shots at 100m

More of a fun gun than hunting.

Good point about seeing your shots out there. Hmmm... maybe a 3-15x then? 3x kinda sucks for up close though. Maybe should go full overkill and slap a piggyback RDS on it lol.

I have 1-6x LPVO on a 22lr build from Dlask with the 25rnd mags. That's a fun plinker!

How about a Zeiss Zeilklein in G&H mounts? :giggle:

What you really need is a bayonet with a kris blade. :)

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I decided to go with an Athlon Helos BTR GEN2 2-12x42mm FFP IR MIL.

Sooooo many good reviews out there. Good value for the money, good reticle and I feel like the 2-12x best suits this rifle for it's intended use of plinking/target shooting at less than 200 yards.

Thanks folks.
