Help me decide on next pistol

I have decided that I not going to keep more then one restricted in my safe and would like that to be a pistol. I have had a few pistol over the last few years and haven't found the one that really wants to be a keeper.

I have owned:
Norinco NP40
Norinco 1911a1C
Norinco 1911a1 Sport
S&W M&P40

I also have had a lot of time behind:
S&W Model 10
S&W Model 64
also fired a little from a Glock 22

Out of all that I found the Norinco NP40 fit the best and I shot it the best. I like the idea of a steel frame but that doesn't eliminate a poly, I also reload for .40S&W and not set up for any other pistol caliber. Compacts also appeal to me.

Last thing is I am working at $800 or less

Ideas, thoughts, suggestions?

is that allowance just for the pistol or does it include extra mags and such

take a look at walther p99 series pistols they are quite nice (yes this is a shameless plug for the .40 my girlfriend is selling)

i like it but she likes 9mm better
 
I recently bought a sig sp2022. I was leery about buying it because the polymer frame, but in all honestly it has to be my favorite handgun. I have shot a 226 many times but I find the 2022 very ergonomically friendly. all the levers and buttons are positioned very well. it is also very asthetically pleasing. I own it in 9mm and really dont have anything bad to say about it. Despite its negative reputation for being a "poor man's sig" I absolutly love it!
 
800 for now is just for the gun, more mags and such can come later on.

I have been looking at SIG but I have been checking out the 229 series because they are more compact.

Also I would drop down to 9mm
 
Geezzz you are my hero, one handgun in the save? I am afraid nobody can do that. Anyhow if just one gun, buy a STI Spartan in either ,45 or 9mm. beautiful piece for just a little under $800

Ya I know I will probably catch a little flack for only one restricted. But I like to do most of my shooting away from the range.

I'm not sure I want to go back to a 1911, I had two and sold both plus I like something a little more compact.
 
Separating the one essential handgun from the superfluous is a pretty tall order. But...this much I know: no Norinco could be the sole Survivor.


You should also try a Glock 19.


(Or a Glock 17, whichever fits you best.)
 
if you want compact berreta is not the answer unless you are talking about the px4 storm then it is outside your prescribed budget

For the money, I agree with Wendell get the 17, great pistol and ammo

I did try a glock 22 and I did enjoy it. if I went Glock I would get it in a 9 and not the 40.

Is there any good suggestions on a steel from compact pistol, in either 9 or 40?
 
Guns are tools to be used for aspects of the shooting sport that we enjoy. If you have not gotten the urge to get into one of the competative shooting sports then I suggest you look into it. Participating in IPSC, IDPA, PPC, Cowboy Action Shooting or even just the handgun club level events puts a whole new slant on your involvement in owning a restricted handgun or two. These events really are a hoot and involve a lot of great like minded folks to associate with. It also gives purpose beyond just target shooting to owning a restricted hand gun.

Hell, if it were just a case of going to a range to turn paper into shreddies I never would have gotten my RPAL and gotten my first handgun. I'd just have gone to the Rent-A-Gun range near me a couple of times a year for a lark and been satisfied.

So really, look at WHY you want to own and shoot a restricted. And get out to a few of the various events in your area as a spectator or helper and see if it stirs your juices.

If you just don't like the idea of "Competition" against other shooters then don't look at it that way. Keep track of your own times and scores and compete against just yourself as a fun way to self improvement. I know a few folks in the various match shoots that will never win a thing unless they turn out to be the only person that shows up. But they still have fun and go home with a satisfied grin on their face and powder smudges on their hands. And it doesn't get much better than that. But that sort of feeling only comes from GETTING INVOLVED!

OK, If this all fell on stoney ground and you're sitting there going "meh....." in disintrest then here's what I'd get. Go buy a .44Mag or bigger revolver. If you're going to only have ONE handgun it may as well be something that'll shake the roots of your soul. Maybe it'll wake something up. Or just say tahellwid'it and don't bother with anything.

After all, you've obviously shot a lot of handguns and burned through a bunch of ammo doing it. It sounds like you're bored with shooting them but don't want to admit it. But is it because you're just bored with standing still and punching paper? If so then why not step up and go try one or more of the flavours of competition shooting. You may just find that the extra spark is what was missing.
 
BCRider, some very valid points there, I will admit I do get a little board just punching holes in paper. Most of the shooting I enjoy involes much greater distances and out side in a field. I have talked to the black badge instructor at my club about doing the course and hopefully one day I will get the time to do it.

So let me add to my original post and say I would like one day shoot production.
 
hmm one handgun? dont i could ever do it! try guns you think look good to you. than see which one fits your hand the best. if you can shoot it see which one you can shot best. id recommend beretta, sig, cz, hk usp, glock.
