Ok buying a handgun this week, now that my att is being processed. Trying to decide between these models.

Smith & Wesson M&P .40 (swaying toward this model) good price at $599

Springfield XD-40

Sig Pro 2022 .40

Glock 23

Any pros and cons on these models greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I used to have a Glock 23, I have large hands and the .40 round made it a very uncomfortable pistol to shoot.

Are you sure you want .40? 9mm is cheaper and a lot easier/more comfortable/less recoil to shoot for a new pistol shooter.

The Glock model 22 was my first pistol and I wish I had of started with a 9mm.

I'm not a fan of the XD, it's basically a Glock for people who hate Glock.

p.s. Have you looked in the exchange? There is always some decent deals happening there.

Goodluck, and welcome!
Tim.

Go with a Glock 17 or 22; They range from $600-630 new.

The Glock 23 is a prohib (102mm barrel) so you need to have it exported from the US with a 106mm barrel for it to be a restricted and your looking at spending at least $800 plus shipping.

As someone mentioned....I'd go Glock 22 if it must be a .40S&W, cheaper(largely because you don't have to go custom long barrel), easy to handle size, etc.....or go 17 for 9mm.

Stay Glock if you want common and ease of access to spare parts.

I don't think anyone here has been able to easily get XD parts. The SigPro was a nice gun, keyword being 'was'......since it isn't made anymore and never sold in large numbers in Canada, good luck getting mags, spare parts, etc...

The M&P isn't a bad choice, personal preference will play into it, but it isn't as omnipresent as the Glock(if that matters).

None of the above. Really!

For all intents and purposes, 40 S&W in the standard bullet weights have about the same recoil impulse as a 45acp cartridge.
That recoil in a smaller frame can be difficult to control.
If you are determined to get a 40 S&W caliber pistol, skip all of the above and look for a Glock 35.
Longer barrel, better sight radius, competition parts that make the trigger better, adjustable sights, and the best overall 40S&W on the market for accuracy without going to a 1911 style front and rear barrel lockup.
If you want to shoot lead and keep your costs down, you can obtain a seriously fabulous conventional lands and grooves barrel from Lone Wolf dist. for about $99.00 bucks.
