hey guys,

i've been out of the gun game for a few months now, (had to sell mine due to lack of funds), but now with my new job im looking to ease my way back into it. Previously i owned an AR and a couple pistols, but after experiencing restricted firearms, i have come to the firm conclusion that i wish to only own non restricted firearms from now on. (this mainly because I loathe ranges, I would much rather take my gun way out into the bush)

Anyways, After doing a moderate amount of research, my only real (sub $1000) options appear to be:

Type 97 NSR
Kel rec Su-16 or Sub 2000
JR Carbine
CSA VZ58 or CZ858

Out of those 4, which would you guys recommend in terms of reliability and fun? i have heard a lot of talk about the quality issues with the type 97 NSR, however most youtube reviews I have watched hail it as a great gun.

Also, all I really want this gun for is to mess around with on camping trips etc. I dont do any serious shooting competitions or anything. Just a fun gun for me and the misses to shoot.

Thanks guys

If you like the JR carbine I suggest looking into the thureon defence carbine. The mag release is in a better location like an ar, and you don't need to take the stock off to take it apart. And also the jrc uses screws and the thureon uses push ppins. They both use glock mags with 10 rounds. So in my opinion I would rather spend the extra 200 for the thureon. The take down is easier. Proper mag release. And One other thing that bothers me about the jrc is if you slap the magazine (like any other rifle to make sure the mag is seated properly) it will go to far into the mag well and jjam. There is nothing to stop the mag from going to far. Which Also means you can't rest the firearm on the magazine to shoot. But I've never owned either so my opinion doesn't really mean anything lol

CZ858 hands down unless you are specifically wanting a black gun. The CZ is cheap to shoot and there is a ton you can do to it.

I have the t97, sub2000 and 3 cz858/vz58. I like them all. They've all worked great for me. I've only had 1 failure with t97 in 200 rounds caused by two pistol mags coupled together and both fully loaded. I may need to file feed ramp slightly. Maybe 2 FTF in 3-400 rounds with sub2000 quite possibly cheap ammo. Cz858/vz58 thousands of rounds can't remember any failures. If it was a SHTF moment I would grab my cz858. They are all good firearms and fun in their own way. The sub2000 folds in half and fits in a normal size backpack so it's easy to carry on 4 wheeler or long hikes. The t97 is very compact as well and .223. The folding stock on cz858 helps reduce it's length. I've read good things about jr carbine and thureon defense. With such a wide range of options you may need to narrow it down a bit. What's your main concerns? Weight, rifle/pistol caliber, price of ammo

Thanks for the help. To be honest, I really liked the look and price of the t97 but I have seen quite a few people on here complaining about failures and poor craftsmanship. I don't have too many requirements. I just want an inexpensive gun that is fun to play around with in the woods. I would prefer 223 over pistol calibers which is why the t97 attracted me.

It's all about what you're going to be happy with. Why not try the t97? Lots of happy customers out there. It would be good if you could go into the store and pick one without the barrel gouge. And hey if you don't like it you can sell it on the EE and try something else. don't listen to the norinco haters out there.

THIS.

It's cheap to buy, cheap to shoot, reliable (if you get one that DOES have the "gremlin", it's easily fixed. Mine doesn't), cheap to upgrade, and non-restricted.

I also love the fact that it scares the living hell out of the anti's because it LOOKS similar to the evil baby-killing spree shooting AK series.

I've looked around but haven't been actually able to find a cz858 online. Just te CSA ones. Where can I find them?

Very hard to find right right now a few shipments were confiscated and classified as prohibited according to Canada ammo, Im on my phone and don't know how to post links but you will see the thread in Canada ammos forum. I don't know too much about it

Type 97 reliable, pretty accurate for iron sights only, small size, awkward controls not for the speed reloads
Kel rec Su-16 reliable too, folds to a small size, doesn't cause miscarriages in libtards, reliable, rail ready for an optic or red dot
Sub 2000-don't have
JR Carbine-don't have
CSA VZ58 or CZ858 reliable as anything, cheap ammo, causes testacles to fall off of socialists

Might just boil down to price of 9mmvs223vs 7.62x39
