I have an XCR-L in 6.8 and looking for an conversion kit to utilize its full potential.

The question is should I pick 5.56 or the X39 and why?

I have other rifles in both calibers already but knowing I should get another barrel to shoot another caliber out of this platform what will you choose if you were me?

For cheap ammo it's hard to beat 7.62X39, it worked well for this guy in his XCR:

I know that guy, bit of a blow hard but really good looking ;).

Like Silverback said, it works well for this guy. Let's be realistic though, the only advantage of x39 is $/round. If you want to shoot, and shoot lots, it's a good round. If you don't see yourself shooting corrosive, there's little to no advantage.

The arguments against x39 are;
- the tapered case, allthough it doesn't play much a role in our wee mags.
- corrosive ammo even when marked as "non"

You already having 6.8, I'd compliment it with .223. Unless you want to shoot lots for cheap, then go x39.
