Help me decide

7mm-08 ;)

You couldn't swing a dead cat in a gunstore without knocking over several 1-300 yard light recoiling deer rifles. Pick whatever bolt action you like the feel of.

That just leaves fun, and accurate. If fun really means light recoiling a 7-08 is hard to beat. So is a .270 Win, with probably lower factory ammo costs. Lower ammo costs might mean a little more ammo than 3 boxes a year.

It's hard to imagine a 0-300 yard rifle (with occasional target pops out to 500 that can't be handled with a VX3 3.5-10 x 40. Get the B & C reticle sonyou at least have a plan in place for the 500 target shots.

Looking for a hunting rifle , bolt action. Mostly for whitetail deer.
Not a heavy caliber. Already have a 30-06 “bush gun” that will hit a pie plate.
Looking for something fun , that might get 3 boxes max threw it per year. Accuracy is important to me without loosing lethality.
6.5 cm sounds like a fun rifle to own.
Is there something I might like better ?
And what should I look at for buying out of the box ready to shoot(not a combo, but not building from scratch per say) .
Rifle , and scope options ?
Max hunting shots would be 300yds , avg 100yds. Range max would be 500yds.
Would like to practice shooting more, so that is why I would like to buy a good shooter.

if you want to practice shooting more get yourself a 6.5CM, its the SENSIBLE way to go especially if your not a Handloader and even better if you are as every brass maker produces it, Lapua,Alpha,Bertram,Norma........

Every rifle maker on the planet is chambering it in their rifles as well as tons of CHEAP factory ammo, hunting and target selection abound,

Lots of other cartridges that fit the bill as you already have a 30-06 so get yourself a low recoiling short action cartridge like the 6.5CM and go have some fun,

Just FYI, not to bash the 6.5x55 as its a great cartridge but I checked online yesterday at Bass Pro Shop in Tsawwassen, BC, they had 3 ammo offerings for the 6.5x55, 14 for the 6.5CM, zero 6.5x55 rifle offerings and 36 different 6.5cm rifles offered ?

Not sure I would be so quick to jump on the 6.5 CM. Its hot right now but these are (in my opinion) fad cartridges ( anyone buy a the 6.8 Grendel lately, what about any of the WSSM or even WSM calibers ... ).

If you are looking for a good proven and established caliber that in sub 30 cal range then I would suggest the:
1) 243 Win
2) 270 Win
3) 25/06
4) 6.5 x 55 SE ( pretty much a ballistic twin of the CM)
5) 7-08 Win

It's not that the 6.5 CM is a bad cartridge but in the test of time I am not sure this will be a cartridge you could buy in any CT or Walmart store. Hornady is already attempting to get the 6.5 PRC in place .... a direct competitor to their own 6.5 CM!

If you go with the 6.5 CM, good for you and enjoy it! Just make sure you put away some extra ammo or brass ( both) for the rainy day in the future. Or buy a 243 Win and enjoy the next 50 years of getting ammo at every hardware store that sells ammo.

My 2 cents.
