Should I buy a used Ponsness Warren 800B, or a new Mec 9000G?? I will be using the reloader for trap loads.

Seller is asking $500.00 for the P/W, or I can purchase a new Mec 9000g for about $525.00 (plus taxes of course).

I am going to look at the P/W press tomorrow, and I have a feeling (based on my discussion with the seller) that it will be in decent shape. He is not the original owner, so age and usage is undetermined.

My main concern is that parts are no longer being made for the P/W 800B, although there may be parts available from the companys' existing stock. I will have to check on that with P/W tomorrow.

Any thoughts/comments would be most appreciated!!:)

PS Hope the mods don't mind me posting here, as I am sure there are many users of both here on the skeet/trap forum.
 
P/W are very good machines, but yes the parts are being discontinued and have been for some time, Once a P/W is well used I find they really start getting finicky and difficult to get consistent loads. That said they will load many many many many many many thousand of shells before that happens.

I currently have 6 MECs including a 9000G, personally I'd go with the mec, brandnew, higher capacity primer tray, easy to use and service, and parts will be easy to get.
 
The old ones are going to be a problem getting parts. I have a PW 2000 and prefer it to the 9000 MECs. A new PW is around $800 US. I have a great contact in the States if you would like to contact him, let me know.
 
I have two friends of mine that have Mec 9000's and decided to upscale to the PW presses. Both have discontinued use because of problems with feeding and frustrations with the presses locking up. One guy a long time reloader bought the PW because he could add a hydraulic ram to it because of shoulder problems. That one went skidding across the basement floor in a moment of frustration never to see operation again!!

They both reload with 9000G's now.

No Kidding.
 
I think that Ponsness Warren make great loaders and that they usually last for a long long time but they are not imortal. When they get old and tired, instead of going to a home for old loaders or being put down so they can go to reloader heavin, they most often get sold. Beware! I would rather take my chances with new from an afordable line.
