Help Me Design A Custom Deer Rifle

Bass Pro has the Remington 700 ADL on sale, including a free hard case, for $499.94 in .243, .270, .308, .30-06, 300 Win and in Youth sizes .243, and 7mm-089 24 inch barrel). The stock is done in Realtree AP.

For those of you who are blessed with being right handed and are considering a project similar to mine, this would be a terrific buy in order to get an action. Brownell's has short actions available, but they are asking $500US for them, and they do not include the trigger.

Just a thought. You also are eligible for a $40 rebate from Remington.

As to the stock, I am facing the same type of restrictions in terms of whether they make the model I want in left hand.

McMillan make a Model 7 replica that is an exact copy of the original factory stock. From the McMIllan website: " It is a classic style stock without a cheekpiece and has a schnabel forend. This stock is designed for the Model 7 but can be used for the Remington 600, 660, 40X and short 700 actions."

The other one I am looking at is a Brown Precision.

I looked at the HS Precision but they don't make a Model 7 style in left hand. They do have other options but it will all boil down to weight.

Here is what the Mcmillan Model 7 replica stock looks like in a right hand model.

Average bush range......75yds
Average deer weighs.....175lbs
Older hunters don't need a lot of heavy artillery both in weight and caliber.
Lefty requirements can be satisfied with a good lever or single shot.

Not a very demanding order.......

An angle eject Winchester 94, rebored to 38-55, mounted with a quality low powered scope or a compact quick point red dot.

Why and angle eject Winchester 94, lots available and not too heavy to carry. No crime to rebore or customize. Works the same from the right or the left. Handles fast.

Why the 38-55, lots of 30-30s and few 38-55s. ammo still available and fun to shoot. Heavy enough for bear and a nice touch of nostalgia.

Why the low power or red dot, speed. no sense having a fast handling rifle with a slow hard to acquire sight. Don't need any magnification in the bush.

You can have the whole project done for about a grand and still have a unique piece to carry into any bush with no apologies to anyone.

cheers
