Hey everyone , I picked up this Mauser 98 from an auction. Curious if anyone can give me some info about it based on the markings and photos. Anyone know what I should order to mount a scope on it? Is there much thing as small 2 piece universal rails? I have a gunsmith that told me to figure out what I need for it and he’d drill and tap it for me…seems lazy but whatever. It is chambered in 30-06.
Thanks

French proof marks, military action( has thumb cut out in left side rail for clip loading). Nice sporting stock. Guessing made between ww1 and ww2 in France.

Thanks so much for the info…. Does anyone know which scope mount/rail or whatever would you suggest so I can mount a scope on this? I’m having a hard time narrowing down what to pick up. Thanks

Most people will drill and tap it for weaver 45 and 46 bases

But there are new bases, that you don't need to grind down the stripper hump ( Warne)

Luepold 1 piece standard rail will work with unaltered mausers.

I like Luepold. Can adjust for windage if the holes are not drilled inline with the bore.
