Help me figure out how to build this...BLR

I interviewed in whitecourt last week :D the 3 of them had me there over an hour I think. good company it seems.

so thats why you need a take down, you want it to stuff under the seat of a 44? :p (hint hint, 12.5" 12ga fits, nudge nudge)

Yes it is a good place to work. Under a 44 seat would be fine, but it can just sit on the back seat too. Take down idea is more for the transport through airports, sticking in a backpack for hiking and some ease of international traval. Sorry but a short 12g pump has no soul to me, just an ugly piece of pipe....A takedown 45-70 on the other hand, nice bit of walnut, a classic round (that I don't have yet) and the ability to be a decent hunting rifle as well. now that sounds like good bang for you buck....just got to think about how much bang I want to part with...

didn't winchester make a factory takedown lever recently? like last couple years? might be something to poke around for...

I don;t know which is uglier, the BLR ot a 12ga :p the marlin's on the other hand.... well I've been known to curl up at night with mine....

(get your minds out of the gutter, not much room in a bivy bag ;) )

glad to hear good things about Airborne, seemed like a smooth operation, have 40 odd hours in the 44, nice machine, like flying a sofa. got picked up by Mustang, one of my first choices as they have 500's, and I'll do horrible horrible things to get back in a 500 ;)

checked out the avaiation thread in Off Topic yet? more then a few rotorheads on this forum

A .325 WSM is not superior either. Higher velocity and a lighter bullet is NOT what you want in a "bear basher" The "superior" ballistics of the .325 may look good on paper, but bone crunching penetration is far superior to speed in this application.

I think that the .325 WSM at 200 yds with a factory 220 gr soft point is still packing close to 3000 ft/lbs of smack. That's a whole bunch, enough for any bear - hell, they're wimps anyway - or go guide gun, .45-70, 500 gr Barnes TSX at 1400 or so and use it inside of a hundred yards. Good enough for an elephant, should do in a bear with a bad attitude!

id love one of these old recoil-operated '81 Woodsmasters:

id normally take straight-grip over a pistol grip for levers, but the BLR Takedown looks so much better than the BLR 81 Lightweight Takedown theyre selling at SIR:

come on, havent we gotten over barrel bands already?

Them 81's are alright if'n ya like shooting a pogo stick on steroids. Didn't like mine, so it moved along. That thing made a 300 Sav kick like a 300 Win mag. I am digging the new BLR takedowns though, like to get one in 22-250 so I can get it punched out to quarter bore. Les

I'd go for the blr 358. I've killed lots of game up to the size of moose with the factory 200 grainer 358 out to 250 yards. Has always worked great on bears too. With handloaded 250 Speers or Hornady RN it provides impressive penetration, lengthwise on deer. You can aslo load lead 158gr pistol bullets over 5 gr of unique for small game with a quiet report. I found the 45's much harder to hit with at over 150 yards. And don't trust the 410 shell in the 45/70 thing. Sometimes it can go wrong.

Hey genius, the original post was about BEAR DEFENCE and survival situations, not "smacking them" at 200 yards. A prime example of what I meant by people getting carried away with paper ballistics. And I dare you to go tell a mountain grizzly he's a wimp to his face. Geez.

Too bad you ain't down here in the States, I have a SRH in 454 that would be perfect for that. But yep, I would seriously look at the guide gun in 45/70. Although, if you could find someone to import from CDNN firearms, they have the takedown 1895 in 405 win for 1299.00 right now. Les

It's too bad the take down lever on the BLR wasn't designed a little different. When the gun is apart it sticks out like a sore thumb ready to catch on things or get bent, and you can't fold it out of the way.
