I'm looking to replace a 24" DPMS heavy barrel on my 308 AR, does anyone know who might bring in a good 18" or 18.5" medium to light match barrel?

I'm eyeing up a Fulton Armory 18.5" medium match barrel but not sure I want to tackle the import process just yet.

I have talked to a few people who build rifles here in Alberta and a custom looks like it will come in around $1000 installed. It's really not worth it to me.

I'd also be willing to trade off this 24" SS barrel if someone has a lighter barrel they would like to part with. The heavy barrel shoots really great but I'd like something a lot more "portable"

Go to Rainer Arms's website and see what have and send an email to Canadian Tactical Cowboy Supplies to have them try bring it into Canada for you for an extra $30 import fee.

However US States dept. seems to be more diligent in enforcing the ITAR regulation when it comes to anything .308.

I can offer McGowen custom match barrels for both AR15's and AR10's.

Just got in a fluted heavier contour barrel in 7-08 for a customer. Very nice work. There are a ton of features and extra options McGowen is happy to manf.

Just see their site and let me know... prices will be very agreeable.

PM or email for quotes.

Thanks
Jerry

Thanks guys, I will look into Rainier and McGowan. Looks like there are nice barrels coming from both companies.

I thought about reprofiling my current barrel but it sounds like there are conflicting opinions on what can go wrong without proper stress relieving.. I would hate to butcher up an accurate barrel like this

In all likelihood, the barrel is already stress relieved. Turning it down is a routine procedure. Just about all barrels get turned down in the process of manufacture. Turning down an AR barrel is easier than turning down a sporting rifle barrel. Basically two sections; behind the gas block and in front of it, often cylindrical, not tapered. Minimal barrel exposed on the lathe, between the four jaw chuck and the tail center. Gas block area is indicated in while in the 4 jaw chuck. Turn down one end, then reverse, re-indicate, turn down the other end. With a 19" barrel, there is always less than a foot of barrel to machine.
