Help me find or build a T3 260 Varmint stainless....

To suggest doing this is blasphemy!!!
The 6.5x55 gives up nothing to the .260. If you have a line on a 6.5x55 and handload why not buy it?
BTW a sponser was advertising .260 Tikka Sporters for a great price.
Suspect you're having the problem due to the .260 not being a common varmint cartridge. However, your local gun shop can order anything you want. How long it'd take depends on if their supplier has one in stock. Be prepared to pay up front too.

Been looking for a year now. Tikka T3 varminter in .260 is simply not in North America. Been looking for the MT version with 20" barrel. Tikka sporter lites (22" bbl) in .260 were/are at Ellwood Epps.
Far as i can discern they are an European rifle only. But have not called Tikka or an actual European dealer to confirm.
Stoeger will not return calls or emails, they are the Canadian distributer of Tikka.

I had seen these but considering that I was going to replace the stock for a chassis, it seems a bit of a waste.
My understanding is that the sporter is just a chromoly barreled varmint dropped into a laminate stock......
Correct me if I am wrong but if this is the case, they seem to be overpriced for what they are!

Look the 260 is fine , but your better off with a 6.5 x 55
ballistics are great ,I shoot pin holes compared to a custom 300 out their at 1000
Find a long action and build it that way you can put your barrel of choise on it .
And trigger group .
find a doner rifle . There's not a lot out there in this caliber just spent a year finally built one

But why is 6.5x55 better? Of course other than the obvious, that you can actually readily purchase them in a varminter style?

As for the cost of the T3 Sporter, it is correct that it is merely a dressed up Varm action - however, do note - Tikka stocks and such are very expensive - i pimped 3 of my 5 T3's, and it cost a very pretty penny in both money and time - and they shot good, most at or just under MOA - Add a good stock to a reg T3 Varm action and you're already into it for $2000+(unless you go with a B/C)... For me, it ended up cheaper to just buy a Cooper 260, which right out of the box outshot all my Tikkas - its a 1/2MOA gun at worst - and is by far a better made gun - no comparison IMHO. Coopers don't come with the Tac look if thats what you are after. PM me and I will send some pictures of 200yd targets from the cooper that I shot - they are quite impressive.

One of my biggest beefs with the Tikka in 260 is that the mag length limits you to 2.82", which limits case capacity especially if you want to shoot VLD type bullets. Call Stoeger and order an extra mag for LA cartridges and a bolt stop/spring, then add another $175...
Oh yes - i don't have anything remotely impressive to say about Stoeger customer service - seems to be a common trend.... there's a message there I would think....

In my tikka I'm restricted to bullet length based on the mag .
i can't get to the lands . On my custom I had the gun smith build the rifle to fit the bullet length that gave me the most powder and bullet length for proforance .
Not to mention the overall ballistics based on powder are better need I go on.
Plus if he's into a true long range he can build a rifle around the diseired distance and energy

Well, those comments are generalities. Agreed that mag length is an issue with the T3 - which is the model discussed in this thread. Do tell, with some facts and figures that the ballistics, based on powder, are better for the 6.5x55.
Don't get me wrong, i'm just in a conversing kind of mood - not looking to argue.

Not a bad idea at all. One i am currently looking at. Have a Remmy action that can be turned into a 260.
But i have become interested in the T3 action of late. Have been running a 700 action for the better part of 25yrs.
