Help me find or build a T3 260 Varmint stainless....

Ok so 6.5 x 55 case length is 55
and 260 is 51 so the case allows 4 more graines of powder for the 6.5
and yes they will operate at about the pressure
admit that there is no need to shoot the woodleigh
160 but we do get that option .
and with the long action I can extend my bullet to gain a few more grains
but I'm happy with my 49 grains with a 140 sst
and I would assume that most 260 are shooting the same .
just like the option of the long action to move around at barrel replacement also .

If both are loaded to same pressures the 6.5x55 could have a theoretical 100fps performance advantage. For all practical considerations they are the same. The .260 will likely work better if you are running a true SA as the 6.5x55 really needs a long action to seat bullets to optimum COAL. In a Tikka T3 it makes no difference as the action can be optimized (if it isn't already) for the 6.5x55 by putting in a LA bolt stop and using a '06 length mag. Depending on the factory throating this would allow you to seat the bullets to the rifling if so desired and utilize the full case capacity.
The 6.5x55 seem to be very easy to develop accurate loads for and there is a lot of good information out there. Mind you by all accounts the .260 seems pretty accomodating in this respect as well.

Really, you cant go wrong with either of them.

Hey thanks, i guess there's no substitute for displacement. The extra 100fps does give an advantage in long range.

May as well throw the 6.5x47 Lapua into the mix. As I understand it, due to the case design and ability to run higher pressure, ideas that this cartridge keeps up with the 260 and 6.5 Creedmpre.

Anyone out there with real world experience is welcome to chime in. Yes, I know it would have to be an aftermarket barrel....but could a guy just set a 260 or 6.5 Swede back a bit?

Thanks

Mark
