i ordered a +2 extension from S&J hardware for my mossberg 590A1 a while back but totally forgot about it. i installed it last week but it extends past the muzzle by about 2 inches and i was scared to use birdshot in it. i tried slugs but the magazine would lose spring pressure constantly and i would have to hit the butt of the shotgun on the ground to unbind the spring so the rounds are not free floating and getting stuck in the elevator.

maybe i received the wrong kit since i found another 590A1 with a +2 and it doesn't extend past the barrel. i have no idea why the new spring and follower won't feed reliably. if anyone can give me some help figuring this out i'd be thankful. pics below.

the other one i found:

all that came with the kit:

thanks for your time.

Probably because you were sent a spring for a +2 extension (or shorter), and a +3 tube.

the spring looks long enough, the tube looks like a +3 for a 20" BBL 590A1, not your 18.5. Are there any dimples in the factory magazine tube? (not the extension) that could be catching the spring. I would say exchange the +3 kit for a +2 and let them know about the spring catching.

no dimple inside the factory tube. i've emailed S&J and sent a message to badboybeeson but so far no replies. i hope i can get this sorted soon.

if no dimples then it sounds like your follower may be jamming under the increased spring pressure. Is the mag tube clean? And are you using the original follower or an aftermarket one? If it fed reliably with the original spring/follower than started jamming with the extended spring, you may need an aftermarket follower
