I would really like to get a tag for this season, but I have a few questions. Should I register online? I am not even sure if they offer the hunter safety course at NSCC anymore, which was what I planned to do. Apparently I can do the course online now and arrange to write the test with someone from the DNR present? Someone please tell me whats what, the more I read online the more confused I get.
also curious about the crossbow license I can do online, how's that all work?

contact your local nscc campus, they set up the hunter saftey/canadian firearms training.
you need to have the firearms training before you can take the hunter safety course.the chances of you getting both before the general deer season could be slim to none.you have until the end of october.bear season opened yesterday.have you hunted/taken hunter training in aother province?not sure how the on-line courses work.

Once you have a wildlife resource card (hunter safety course) you can do the online crossbow course. This will allow you to hunt with a crossbow during thr regular seasons. Long bow still have to do a practical course.

If you can prove you have hunted or taken hunter safty courses in other provinces you can probably skip the hunter safety course. That is a question for DNR. I think the courses are only put on a couple of times a year.

If you have proof of a hunting course from any other province, take it to the main office in Halifax (not one of the area offices) and show it to them. They will likely give you a temporary wildlife card on-site and send you a permanent one in the mail. That's what I did. I have no idea about the crossbow course, sorry.

Registered to do the questions online, and got a hold of Judy Clattengurg, she was very helpful and I booked a time for Oct 3 to write the exam. I wish I could have gotten in sooner but work was interfering, and she is busy next week.

Just figured I would fill in what happened for anyone who happens to do a search like I did.
I need to bring in the answers to all the questions from the PDF study materials, the registration code that proves I paid the fee, and my PAL.

I have a muzzle loader and a crossbow as well, so I should be able to get out and do a lot of hunting still.

A coyote just attacked my parents neighbours dog yesterday, who was a favourite of mine, so hopefully when I am home in Cape Breton for Thanksgiving I can put a dent in their population.
