Tired of blowing big $$ shooting my .357 and .40 at the range, I'm looking at a .22 pistol to "plink" with. That being said, I've done a lot of reading here and have come up with 3 pistols that meet my needs. Unfortuneatly it would appear that as many people posted positive feedback as did negative.
I've narrowed my choices to the Sig Mosquito, the Ruger Mark 3, and the S&W Model 22A.

Please vote on your choice, and leave me a comment on why you have voted FOR that pistol.

Thanks

The Ruger is a time proven gun. Inherently accurate. Eats anything you put in it. The S&W Model 22A looks interesting but I have only held it and not shot it so I can't say much about it.

What feels better in your hand? Ballance?

I would take a P22 over a Mosquito anyday (I own both), and I'm a Sig-lover. My 229 SAS is my favorite pistol.

But if it had to be out of those three, I'd take the Ruger.

I had a Ruger Mark 2 that I really liked; I wish I had kept it.

You could take the money and buy the gear to cast bullets and load 38 Special; a guy I shoot with says he pays maybe 50% more for the 38 Special loads he whips up over the 22 ammo he buys.

Sig is junk, trigger yuk (friend has one)

Was gonna get a Ruger mk3, but ended up getting a Buckmark camper (like the looks a little better...)

I owned a Ruger Mk II for 23 years, fired thousands of rounds without ever a problem. Of those three I'd pick the Ruger again without hesitation. Have you thought about Brownings at all?

I just got a ruger 22/45 mark II. It works very well in nearly every way but is way uglier than the plain ones. Can't even change grips.

Get a stainless Mark III with the slab side barrel even for the looks. Lots of after-market and they have been in production for decades.

Wow, it looks like the Ruger has taken the lead by a mile here.

So, for those Ruger owners out there, tell me this. Are they really that much of a pain to strip and clean as I've heard?

Sig owners, tell me why the Mosquito is such a POS if the rest of the line up is so amazing? I love my 2022.

Thanks to everyone for all your help with making this decision. Looks like there's another Ruger on my horizon. This time it'll be a .22, unlike my .357 SAA.

I'll admit to never field stripping my Mark II in the 23 years I owned it  (and I always field strip my centrefire semi-autos after a range visit). Never had any problems with it, though. I always wiped down the chamber area and the bolt and never had any problems.

I think the Sig is the best approximation for hand position related to a larger bore semi auto. But then again, I still plink away with a 40 year old Browning Nomad and still get good groups at the range. Question is "what feels best to YOU?"

I know the SIG .22 needs to be fed the best ammo out there or it will jam frequently. This is one of the biggest reasons I'm looking at other brands.

How is the Ruger Mk 3 (series) for FTF or FTE? Are they reliable? Do you need to feed them premium ammo or will they shoot anything?

keep those opinions coming. I want to spend my tax refund BEFORE I get it!

My vote went towards the Ruger. I have owned a few MkII's over the years and my current one is a stainless 6 7/8" Government Competition (slabsided barrel). I think the disassembly/reassembly 'issue' of this gun is blown way out of proportion. I found that I 'got it down' after a few times of doing it. I find them to be robust, accurate and reliable. The bonus is that spare parts and aftermarket super duper doo-dads are readily available.
